Internet Dating Scam: Fake Soldiers

I just came across a post on “A Soldier’s Perspective” discussing a rather disgusting and disturbing trend that has guys posing as soldiers on Internet dating sites. Here’s the quote from CJ’s:

The latest trend involves trolling internet dating sites and convincing women that they are honorable Soldiers who have fallen in love and would do anything to communicate with the object of their affection. But, because they are deployed to Afghanistan or Iraq, they need you to sign up for an expensive telecommunications service like “Military TELEX” in order to make that happen. They profess unending love as their motivator and, unfortunately, many women have fallen for it.

The BIG red flag here is that the guy is asking for money. NEVER fall for that con.

If you come across anyone on a dating site who is asking you for money, regardless of the reason; block them immediately from further contact and then report them to the internet dating service.

You can also check out who is really behind their email address…

AND / or their telephone number…

To read specific details about about one incident, read CJ’s post “The New Military Dating Scam”.

Just so you know, there are less than 1.000 American military personnel in Iraq now. We’re packing up and letting them run their own country.

Hi everybody! Let me begin by saying that I think it’s so damn good that all information will be on the Internet about these bastards who cheat us out of money, among other things. I myself have beenl scammed by a man named Jenn Smith, who said to be on peacekeeping in Baghdad, Iraq. The base, which have claimed to serve in units of E / 5 of a military base that does not even exist. This went on for a year and a half before I came to my senses and realized what this man went on. But as many say love is blind. Jenn cheated me not only the money he did so that I and the children lost our home. I sent in round numbers nearly $ 20,000 for this man because he wanted to come to our home to Sweden to live with me and the kids .. I met this man inside woome in September last year and thought I had found the love of my life, all these messages that he sent that made my heart melt. He sent several photos that I thought was in him and his son who he said he had to my hotmail and I was totally sold. Even my youngest son said mom it’s not the same man that you have on woome and the photos he had sent to your hotmail. I called my son a liar something I may regret bitterly that I may live with for the rest of my life. Today I feel good I’ve also been in contact with a police officer who has taken up a notification. He said that the real number is so large because we feel a great shame and do not want to tell anyone what we’ve been through. He also said that there is a notification inside a Smith who claims to be the American military in Baghdad, but he had no first name of this man. He also told him Smith has been going there and sitting in jail. I tried to call his mobile number but it is a telephone voice that says, the number is not in service please contact interpolation and what I think she says in the end it sounds like LA. I enjoy to the full because I feel that justice has been done and I got the last laugh. Take care of you and want to finally say I feel good, I have found my light in life, believe it or not on Tagged, I have met him and he’s no scammer. I am happily married to this man and move to Jordan in mid-April. Wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

Hi everybody! I wanna show you a message i got from bubbles on scamwarners, if anybody is a member on that site. Hi Anki,

ScamWarners is under a “Denial of Service” attack by some scam group we took down. The overwhelm the website using bots so the server closes down.

For now we are having to leave the site offline until the attackers run out of money for their attack. We don’t have any good way to let people / members know what is happening. I am glad you asked. It has nothing to do with you. It is an angry scam group.

    Have a good weekend.
    Abby

    Deb,
He is a scammer. Anyone who joined in 1984 would be MUCH more than a SSG by now. He’d probably not be able to stay in after 20 years because of not being promoted fast enough. You can tell he is real by asking him for his military email address, and it MUST end in .mil or it is fake.

    Veronique,
A site like this ought to be available to every country in the world. You may want to let your local press/newspaper know that you almost got ripped off, they show too many stories AFTER a person got ripped off it would be nice to show one with us winning.

    Cecelia,
Don’t worry about catching them, they will change their name and background story in 2 seconds. it is all fantasy, there is no sense in even tracking it once you find out they are fake, they will reuse it again in a few years maybe once forgotten.

Regarding my comment above about Dennis Graves. He told my mother that he was from Colorado. He is currently in Lybia. He was retired, but had came out of retirement to go train our Army soldiers who were already in Lybia to go into battle. He asks for money to buy gold to send to my mom. Money has been sent. He always wants more, and gets angry when she sends or doesn’t send it. I thought that the relationship was over, but obviously not. He has sent her the similiar love letters, like the ones I have read above. He must e-mail or talk to her several times a day. It is just heart breaking to watch.
The first time she was scammed he was turned into the FBI. They were onto him, but like we all have learned, as soon as the money is sent over the water, it is lost forever.

  9. Pamella Adams says

Hello again…..I have some e-mail addresses for you from the 1 scammer that is scamming my mother as we speak: Dennis Graves…..fairduff@ymail.com. Asking for money, love letters etc. She won’t listen to anyone.
She was scammed first like 1 1/2 years ago by a Nigerian, pretending to be “Craig Anderson”. Turns out his real name is “Majjed Youssef”.
Please if anyone else is being contacted by a Dennis Graves, please contact me at pamelladms@yahoo.com.

Another Name to add to the long list of scammers……”Roland Stout”
I was contacted by Roland Stout via FB on 11/18/2011. At first i was flattered that i was talking to a US soldier. In his first message he went on saying that he was in Iraq, lonely and needed someone to talk to. We exchanged inbox messages via FB for 2days, then noticed that his account had been closed. My first thought was that he had blocked me until i recieved a friend request and another inbox with him saying he had a problem with his other account. We continued inboxing via FB for a further day or 2. I asked him where he found me and he said through “people you may know”, thats where my suspicions started as we had no mutual friends. It wasnt long before he asked if i had a Yahoo account. I told him i did not so he sent me an invite to set one up so i did. Once i did that we spoke on Yahoo several times a day. With my suspicions still rising i asked him if he had webcam and he said no they werent allowed that there due to security reasons (another suspicion added to my list). So my suspicions got the better of me and i started to search the web to find out if this “Roland Stout” really exsisted but with no prevail. At this stage he had told me he has a 4yr old son names Brian who lives in the states with his mother. He is also in real estate and construction which then lead to him telling me he has been looking at these 2 properties, 1 in victoria Australia and the other in Melbourne Australia, i told him that Melbourne is in Victoria (yet another red flag) so he had to go check his paper work (in other words he had to google Melbourne Victoria) It wasnt long before he told me that he had a client that was very keen on buying one of the properties and wanted to pay for a survey but had no way of getting the money, so he asked me if i would open an account in my name so that the money could be deposited and the survey could go ahead. I told him that i could not do that as i am a single mum and recieve family support payments and if i was to open an account and have all this money in my name i would loose my payments. He sounded very disappointed and continued to try and get me to open an account, so i told him (with no intentions of doing so) that i would go and enguire about it the following week. He was happy about that, but i never mentioned it to him again and neither did he. By this time he could sense my doubts in him. He had sent me several photos of himself and one of his son. In one photo he was even holding up a board with my name on it (obviously is very experienced at using photoshop) He also phoned me on 2 occasions, in which i questioned him about his accent as it did not sound American, he put it down to growing up in Madrid. Since then he has never called again. I continued my search on this “Roland Stout” and still nothing. He sensed i was still in doubt and tried his best to convince me that he was real and that when his leave was approved he was coming to Australia to be with me and then he was taking me to the states to meet his family (i almost believed him, but my doubts still got the better of me) We continued chatting about the usual stuff, him telling me how much he loved me and that we would soon be a happy family and we would get married in the states so that i wouldnt have to apply for a visa and so on. I played along with him the whole time, just to buy myself time until i could catch him out. I almost gave up as i could not find anything on him. I even did an IP track on his emails which pin pointed him straight to Nigeria. Still not completely convinced he was fake i had his pics scanned and they came back legit as to does his FB account. Still with my suspicions and the help of a friend i continued my search, staying awake for more then 24hrs at a time searching all the scammer sites for anything, but still nothing. I even asked him for his Military email in which he hesitantly gave me, but i noticed the .com at the end and knew it was fake but he swore that it was a confidential email and that i should now believe he was a real Troop, so i played along but still i could not find proof to say otherwise…….until yesterday when i hit the jackpot. My persistance paid off when i came across a blog on a different site mentioning his name. I am still in contact with him and he is none the wiser that i know who he really is. I almost lost him last night when i kept asking him questions but he kept trying to reassure me that he was real, so i lured him back by mentioning the bank account again. I told him that if he sends me all the official documents of what the money is for and who its for and where its coming from and supplies me his business number and clients details i should be able to open an account. Soon after i told him the requirements he had to go to a “meeting”, im guessing hes busy making fake documents and client details lol. I would like if someone could get back to me on how to notify the real Roland Stout and any thing that can be done. I plan on bringing this MOFO down when the time is right, i just wanna have my fun with him for a while. Its one thing to f*ck with me, its a totally different thing to f*ck with my kids. I guess im one of the lucky ones that got suspicious straight away. It deeply saddens me that so many people have lost so much to these filthy parasites……one thing i live by is that Karma’s a bitch and so am i. Lets all work together to shut these f*ckers down, dont give in to their charm ladies, they prey on us and if they sound to good to be true……….they are!!! seriously, how many men out there actually talk like that………………..very few. Goodluck to all out there that are going through the same thing. Stay strong and dont give in to them

  11. Here’s the IP address of a military impostor named Ethan Valerio who claimed to be deployed in Afghanistan , 196.201.51.17. All emails I received from him had this IP address and which I just found out originated from Accra, Ghana.

  12. TO Veronique in Belgium
Yes he is a scammer There is NO such thing as a diplomat handling parcels He is playing on your heart saying he is not sleeping etc Jerks like him have an African voice too if you ever hear them talk
    Beverley NZ

  13. I had a few men that I found were scammers two claiming to be soldiers serving our country. One is wilsonscottbrown@yahoo.com, claims to be in Kubal City and that he loves you and wants to come visit but you need to contact his military leader to ask for him to come home on leave I never got that far, he was deleted and blocked after telling to ask them for his leave at a hotmail email. The other one I am not sure if is a scam and have searched his profile and there is someone with his name living in San Antonio where he claims to be from, he sent me many photos that looked like they were from a younger age to an older one and are the same person with the same name and insignia on his uniform. He claims to be in the army as a staff sgt has been in since 1984. How do I get more information to see if he is just another scammer? name is john edwards, has not asked me for money or my phone number or address.

Thanks for any information you may have to help me out..

Veronique, That is a CLASSIC scammer profile. I wish they were all so easy to identify.

  20. Hallo
I’m veronique, I’m Belgian (Europe) On a datingsite “meetic” I’ve been contacted by an american soldier, mechanical engineer, serving in Afghanistan, Kabul, named major Lesly McCoy. He clames to live in Atlanta, Georgia. He lost his parents at young age. A widower who has one son Allan, 12years. We’ve chatted for hours, at first I only talked to him with only feelings off compassion, but those feelings grow into really caring. He said he would retire before the end off this year. So he did get a parcel, with valuebles (medails, documents, …), but he ‘s scared for his life, he said he couldn’t trust anyone, … One day he came online, panicking, said he didn’t know what to do, told me then about this parcel, that others would send it to their family, but he didn’t have anyone in the States, only his son, who is mentaly handicapt (retarded as he said), … He wanted me to contact by mail DCS Denzel Courier Services, to the customers manager, to ask to come and get the parcel and send it over to me, it has to be done by diplomats, because it’s in warzone, so that would be the only way.
So I contacted DCS, got answer that they would do just that if only I could send the necesary information. I did and then they responded they would send a diplomate, after the payement of half the total cost: 3600euros, would be 1800euros to pay upfront, 1800euros to pay on delevery. I told Lesly that I couldn’t pay that amount of money, he responded that he couldn’t count on me, so I didn’t hear from him for a couple off days. I felt so guilty, thought I was the reason why he would maybe get hurt, killed, …
Then he came back online, saying his life was in danger every day, he was scared, didn’t sleep at all, … couldn’t work properly, … but he wouldn’t ask anymore for paying for his parcel. He said allso that he had only cash money, DCS didn’t agree to get the parcel and be payed in cash. I tryed to convince him to talk to someone over there, to get at least some sleep, … that went well for a couple of days … but 2 days ago, the last time he came online, it went wrong, haven’t heard from him, … I really worry.
My collegue did some surch for me on the internet and found this site, read some simular story’s, contacted me immediately to please not send any money, that he uses a false ID, …
Can anyone help me with that please?
    Is he also a scammer?
    Is he really a soldier?
I would be very gratefull if anyone could tell me please, being in Belgium I can’t easaly get any information on this.
    Sorry for errors in writing.
    Thank you
    Veronique

To Mark Freeman: Please see my post to Shirley Johnson. The same goes for your friend as well. Encourage your friends to read these posts. I feel they will get their eyes open quite quickly if they do. These are real life situations posted here and posted to make people aware. I got a lot of my information from real live Military lawyers and the Military takes care of our men financially. No fees for leave or retirement. Your right, they have medical covered. You better believe it. If he claimed he was military and asked her for money, then he is a scammer, and he thinks he has himself a sucker. It’s better she know now than later, when he has taken her money and broken her heart Hope she will read my post. Good luck.

  22. Margaret Rodgers says

To Shirley Johnson: Ask your cousin to please read a major portion of the posts on this website. Ask her if any of the posts sound like anything he has written or said to her. I and others on here have posted our real life experiences to help just such people as your cousin. The name Aaron Ramos has been used to scam people. His name has been reported throughout these posts. Most likely the person portraying Aaron , is also the other too as well. They use tons of different alias’s and a new one on each new victim. Some names are stolen, and many, many, are just simply made up., If he is Ramos, he is not just getting started, and if he knows Ramos, he is not just getting started. Lots of these scammers are Nigerian students in Malaysia, all huddled in one room, wall to wall computers, with files on victims their working. This is how they pay for their education. They have a runner who goes and picks up the money being wired in from all over the world from Western Union and Moneygram. They even take shifts. One works a lady during the day, making her think he just can’t get her off his mind, and then evening shift, new guy takes over for evening love chats. You say how do I know all this. Well I was scammed out of $3000 and it started me on a 7 day a week investigation into scammers. Oh and it isn’t just men doing this, some are women. You think your chatting with your latest love and it is actually a woman. I had that too. I now can tell a scammer just by the way he starts his chat, or the name he uses, and or where he is from. I can even tell when they are getting ready to ask for money. I am now the President of N.L.W.A.S. which stands for The National League for Women Against Scammers. Please ask your cousin to read my post. Don’t send money as that just enables them to ruin lives. Good luck to her.

  23. Shirley Johnson says

My cousin has been involved with ‘FLORES NELSON’ who works with the Military Channel (getting smarter now and not using current military). He is friends with, for one, Aaron Ramos and a few others. He is on fb and had 2 profiles – the other was GUILLARME FLORES.
Have reported both and can’t find much on this guy so he’s probably just getting started on his little scam.
We’ve warned her about him and she got pretty mad at us…don’t know if he’s going to get money out of her or not but can’t help someone who doesn’t want to be helped.
Anyone else run into this character?
