Internet Dating Scam: Fake Soldiers

I just came across a post on “A Soldier’s Perspective” discussing a rather disgusting and disturbing trend that has guys posing as soldiers on Internet dating sites. Here’s the quote from CJ’s:

The latest trend involves trolling internet dating sites and convincing women that they are honorable Soldiers who have fallen in love and would do anything to communicate with the object of their affection. But, because they are deployed to Afghanistan or Iraq, they need you to sign up for an expensive telecommunications service like “Military TELEX” in order to make that happen. They profess unending love as their motivator and, unfortunately, many women have fallen for it.

The BIG red flag here is that the guy is asking for money. NEVER fall for that con.

If you come across anyone on a dating site who is asking you for money, regardless of the reason; block them immediately from further contact and then report them to the internet dating service.

You can also check out who is really behind their email address…

AND / or their telephone number…

To read specific details about about one incident, read CJ’s post “The New Military Dating Scam”.

Hi..Another piece of crap i was told about was this..A Sgt. wales-sckovich by name..or
Rob Gray aka..was chatting to him for around 4 months now, recently he sends me an official military letter head saying..’Regards sgt.Gray’s benefites as to leaving the army has been put in your name..in the sum of 790,0000 usd kindly send 5000 odd usd for his benefits to be released to you as my name was the beneficiary and his flight and travel costs would be included.Enclose was an official looking army document sent for me to fill out and send back with the said fee. I wish i can show you all this crap here..or if you could send me an official address where these people can be caught out in their tricks..I done the ip address search and it came up Pennsylvania Washington..Pure Crap…! Underneath the Ip there were other comments from other people saying its a spam email or a pornographic site emal or something like that, anyway it was all crap and the love that came with it omg its so treacherous but I was expecting it,only becoz i knew what to look for…it wasn’t from a .mil address it was .armyusa or something like that..How these people lie..pathelogically too its so bad…Please always be aware where money is involved..and sudden love interests…Hope this helps his next victim..

  5. Necesito saber si resulta conocido el nombre de Dave Ruddock Carter, dice ser general .
Frank Cody ,dice ser diplomático ..
    Gracias .

  6. I don’t know if anyone uses this site anymore. But I have recently been caught up in 2 scams. One is current. Several red flags with both guys. First one was Sgt. David Robert Jason. He wanted money and me to request for his leave. 2+2= I don’t think so. My bro is a chief in the Navy. I know a little. The 2nd one I still gathering information. But I know he’s bogus he has 2 FB profiles. Claims his parent live in Texas when they live in Virginia and he has 2 siblings. He won’t give a military email nor will he give an address over in Afghanistan. I am trying to contact his parents and going to the authorities with these guys. The second on is Sgt. Bruce Hodges. I believe someone stole his information. It seems like I am talking to a lady at times not a man.

I forgot to add a Ben cole who says he is a soldier in Afghanistan. First he said he was a General and then he said he was Col. Ben Cole. He asked me to request leave for him. He said he didn’t want to die there and wanted to get the F out of there.I thought pretty strange talk for a Col. Never got to the money part as I called him out and he said” be right back “, and left and never returned. . It really doesn’t take much to get them running if you just call them out. The only said thing is you know they are just going to hit on someone else.

  8. Margaret Rodgers says

To Everyone: I have new names to report. A David Phillips posing as soldier in Afghanistan. Asked for $395 for a pass card. Brian Hess posing as a soldier in Afghanistan asked me to catch something for him here in the states and then suddenly went silent. Did not state exactly what it was. Brian was aware of my familiarity with scammers and I believe he forgot for a moment. When i asked him to give me proof he was a soldier such as mil email and other info, he said he did not have to prove anything to me and went offline and has not returned. Abraham Wilford claiming to own a lumbar business asked for money to ship lumber out of Russia. When I said I did not have any money he faded away and stopped contact. James Cole stated he was a retired engineer with a project in building a orphanage in Washington D.C. area and asked me if I could receive goods for the orphanage. When I started asking questions he eluded them and stopped referring to the topic. He claimed to live in Washington D.C. and his emails were traced to Lagos Nigeria. I also requested he come on cam, which he said he did not have one. I requested he call me by phone , and he has avoided that also.

  9. Margaret Rodgers says

For Pamela Adams: I believe your name is passed around. I have been contacted by tons and tons of scammers over the pass year. Also last Jan 1, 2011, I was contacted by someone using the name Walter Bruston. I have felt that this contact has changed hands about 6 times now using the email Walter Bruston. I have never let on that I knew but I know when they change people. There is a long lapse in communication, and by that I mean several days go by with nothing which is strange because there is contact normally at least twice a day. Next I depict something is different in the way they chat or words they use. I believe a change in this one has just transpired very recently. On the previous one we had agreed to a certain way of signing off, which was requested by me , but this new one now in the last week has failed to use the agreed upon sign off. He evidently did not catch this in the file that I believe they have on me.

  10. Pamela Adams says

Do these individuals pass around names of women whom others have failed to scam? My mom was hit hard around 1- 1/12 years ago by a known “falsely named” Craig Anderson. And this year there has been Dennis Graves, and also a Peter Griffen. Do any of these names sound familiar to anyone?

  11. Hi to all of you that have been taken in by this scam!! I have just been taken in by a MSG. Hadwin Eric Fox LAUSENG. Claimed to be superior officer in Afghanistan.I will post some of what he wrote to me, poems, love songs etc. He completely had me fooled and I am not easily swayed!! BE WARNED they are very clever,if it was not for SOME NIGGLING FEELING THAT SOMETHING WAS NOT RIGHT, i went on this site and read what others were experiencing and it was JUST THE SAME. The endless words of dying love, poems, songs, DO NOT BE FOOLED. oIf it seems to good to be true, it is in this case. Luckily he only got £27.50 out of me, supposedly for a friend of his that wanted to join chatline??? Dating agency subsequently blocked this, knowing it was a scam. Should of realised then!!! My God do I feel violated…. he completely reeled me in. So sad that there are slimebags like this out there. Also, one very important thing I also learned on this site is how to trace the IP mail locator number. By doing this, you can see where email came from. Mine came from Harrogate, Ireland and west coast usa, and that finally hit the nail on the head for me!!! If anyone wnats to know more, please do not hesitate to contact me: louann2@hotmail.co.uk

  12. Just wanted to make you all aware of a scam that I fell for concerning a “soldier” I met on Match.com. He claimed his name is Capt. Joseph Waldie and he is stationed in Iraq. Claimed his unit was 4th Brigade Combat Team SF/EIU, 4th Infantry Division. Said he was divorced, 1 son named Charles, 1 sister Bridget who died of lung cancer and his mom lives in England with her family. According to his match.com profile he lives in New London, CT and has 2 pictures posted, both in uniform, one where he is in a vehicle wearing a Santa hat and the other also in a vehicle but wearing full battle gear. His user name when I responded to him was “1bigcjw” and a few weeks ago saw the profile up again, reported it to match. I have watched on Match to see if it came up again and low and behold it showed up today. This time using the user name “CJWBegin”. I’ve traced the email headers and they all come up with the probable origin of Nigeria all routing through Sunnyvale, CA. Albeit too late for me, I hope others will take heed and not get involved with this scam. I got suspicious too late but hoping my experience can save others the pain.

  13. I feel so ashamed and get sad when I read all the comments here. I have been scammed by a RICHARD BROWN. Just checked his IP adresse and mostly he was in Ghana, but recently he has moved to London where he probably waits for me to send him more money.. Got rid of 4000 Br Pound on the bastard!

    Look out for richard20080@hotmail.com
    richard20090@hotmail.com

He is ever so good with faking documents and searching the web for ready made loveletters. He is really persuasive and good with words. Watch out!!!!
I so wish I had found this web site before meeting him!!!!

    Take care! Annika from Sweden

  14. MSG Robert McLaughlin says

Amanda, you got a scammer there big time. read this link:
    http://101date.com/how-to-avoid-a-military-dating-scam/

Love cost, no switching over. We do our assigned job for the assigned time them move on. There is no fee. If we want out early that’s just to bad.

  15. Oh and it costs 40,000 to do it. Never to return to their old post and they would be free from duty.

  16. Can anyone out there tell me if there is such a thing as a switching over protocol for special forces members, Anyone in the military may know how to answer this. This is supposed to allow them leave there tour of duty where ever they are and go back home to the states.

  17. amanda humphries, says

I started talking to Staff Sargeant Scott Raymond. On a yahoo site. My friend tells me that is red flag#1, I have heard special forces a lot from everyone on this site#2, He told me he is in Afghanistan, but won’t tell me where for security reasons. #3, he says the moto here is don’t trust anyone they could be the enemy? #4, so that is why he can’t borrow anyone else’s phone to call me #5, He has asked me to send him a mobile phone-the best you can get because that’s what works out there #6, spelling and grammar are poor, #7, again he is from Texas, never married, but had his heart broken by cheating girlfriend#8, both his parents were killed in an Autoaccident 4 years ago #9, I asked him to tell me about his childhood, but since his parents died he doesn’t like to talk about it, #10,Has today mentioned he’s going to talk to his “commd” about getting out early #11, now he says he doesn’t want me to send him anything so I will know I trust him.- I guess we’ll see, because as with all the other ladies, I’ve fallen hard for him. If anyone has met this guy please let me know. I do have pics. Thanks Amanda

  18. MSG Robert McLaughlin says

    Marta,
Thank you for the forward. The mail.mil appears to be valid, a new one on me. Makes sense to use it as a catch all. The sender included a phone number too, you can always verify that way s well. I was under the impression you said a SCAMMER was using a .mil address though, and that is the one I’d be interested in.

  19. I wish I new about this site sometime ago, I was had for a lot of money, I thought I was helping my military
man get home. He claimed he had all these fees that needed to be paid and there was no one else who could
help him. I am now in serious debt because of this, I almost lost my home. Just letting you all know that this is
the worst way to find love. I thought this man could help me and my family, but instead i lost just about everything
trying to help him. To use the military as a scam is by far cruelest and meanest was to scam someone. As is they
don’t have enough going on just trying to fight for our country. I pray who ever read this will not fall for this scam as
I did. Be careful people. Looking for love can cost a lot.

  20. So embarssed to admit but yes these people who ever they are using actual individuals in the military. Scamming people like me lucky I only lost $370.00 he poses as Milfred Shane Williams, he is featued in USO as volunteer of the Year 2011, But who’s behind it sounds like from Africa, he sent me pictures of his family started with poetry how I came accross him was through a dating network services Wayn.com I am just mentioning it because thats how he got of hold of me. gave me this account yahoo, shaniwilliams_moore@yahoo.com, he is a Surgical Tech. he is stationed in Kabul Afghanistan and he needs money to be sent through Western Union or Money order to this agent Anita Dawn Sipple then I should scan the receipt witn MTCN # and this Brigadaire name Daniel Smith responds he game me the MOS # of this soldier everything. the web site in which his supposed company comander or supervisor is under this email. usacombat2@usa they sent you instructions on how to proceed. He even wanted me to sent him $470.00 for internet he said his internet expired and that he would not be able to communicate with me…..Since he has phone access he had the nerve to call on my phone and insisting I to to Moneygram, and send it to that particular agent throught western Union I really fell but I was greatful that Western Union agent that alerted me I in the back of my mind I had I suspected something but I could not put my finger on it. I wish that the Federal Bureau of investigations gets involve to stop these individuals. Stealing real citizens identies.

  21. Anyone heard of a “Col. Dennis Graves”? lo!!! The same sickening stories as above….. it is all happening to a relative of a relative.. oh yes, he is supposedly stationed in Libya. Any knowledge about this “guy” would be appreciated.
    Thank you
    Ann Adams

  22. oksana davydov says

This man named THOMAS BRUNT sent me a message on facebook saying he was a military man stationed in Iraq and that he’s looking for a nice woman to marry. He started confessing his love for me…
I understood it was a scam because of spelling errors and also because he wouldn’t always make sense in what he was writing. For instance, he wrote he loves the sound of my voice and the feel of my touch when we have never met nor spoken on the phone!
I knew better than to send anything but I want other women to beware.

  23. Hi my name is Judy,
i have been also scammed,by a man naming himself asSTAFF SERG.SEAN HARVELL,
I was a fool and sent him money, not knowing anything about scams but now i know a lot,He said he needed money for his holiday and some money for a flight explaining that he had to pay all this himself,i wanted to see the flight ticket,he sent me one and when i read it it was to my name place but in theu.s.a.then he said he was stuck in Cuba as far as i know he is still there. He was based in AFGHANISTAN.Also there is someone else saying he is a BRIG. GEN.DAVID CRYER the spelling is not so good. I also asked about the accent as he would call me,he would say its the static over the phone. This has been going on for some time i haven’t known about all these sites thanks to reading all of this i am much wiser.

  24. MSG Robert McLaughlin says

If you have an email ending in .mil that is not real I would be VERY interested in dissecting it.

I set up a temporary email address at M8R-4sy5m31@mailinator.com

it will expire soon so who cares about spammers, please send the text to it, thank you.
