I just came across a post on “A Soldier’s Perspective” discussing a rather disgusting and disturbing trend that has guys posing as soldiers on Internet dating sites. Here’s the quote from CJ’s:
The latest trend involves trolling internet dating sites and convincing women that they are honorable Soldiers who have fallen in love and would do anything to communicate with the object of their affection. But, because they are deployed to Afghanistan or Iraq, they need you to sign up for an expensive telecommunications service like “Military TELEX” in order to make that happen. They profess unending love as their motivator and, unfortunately, many women have fallen for it.
The BIG red flag here is that the guy is asking for money. NEVER fall for that con.
If you come across anyone on a dating site who is asking you for money, regardless of the reason; block them immediately from further contact and then report them to the internet dating service.
You can also check out who is really behind their email address…
AND / or their telephone number…
To read specific details about about one incident, read CJ’s post “The New Military Dating Scam”.

tHERE IS no SUCH THINGS as scamm banks What these rotten devils do is use a bank NAME but you have sent the money by western union to that bank address
No bank would have money legally sent to oner person and anyway banks have codes and they DONT know that
Hi,
I found your site and thans to alot of your posts it has helped me. I met a Sgt. Chris Bealey on the site dateacanadian.ca he was very good quite the charmer confessed his love after 3wks. He has stated he is 44yrs old divorced has a 10yr old little girl, he is from LA California dad passed when he was 6yrs
old and his mom passed while he was in Afghanistan which he states he has been there now for a year and a half.
As he seemed to get closer to me then came the question he
told me they just had a meeting that morning and their commander told them that their leave would be payed out in
a cheque he wants to come and see me but cannot only has seven hundred and his commander told him it would cost him 1750 to fly to canada to see me.
Then the big question could I lend him 1000 just until he
gets here then he would pay me back, I told him I could not do it but then he told me a good relationship is based on trust without it there is nothing. I told him last night he was a lier he tried to get out of it but it didn’t work out for him, he usually contacts me at night so we will see. I have about 9 pics he has sent me oh by the way u mentioned in past post a Robert Gray would that be a Lt. Robert Gray 10yr old son a widower wife died during childbirth and he is in Bolivia right now special force he sent me several emails with pics too.
I just want to know who this Sgt. Chris Beasley is and does this person really exist I have tried to find out but no luck. Can you help me out very curious.
Thanks Michele
s hee then he will pay me back
a cheque
Hi just another word of advice..if they tell you they have money, weather large amount or few hundred its a lie..they say this for you to belive they have the means to pay you back..Believe me they dont…And many have others working for them to collect the money from w.u…mainly woman..either there real wives or girlfriends..
Thanks for that information Denise its greatly appreciated…I was talking yet again to a one ‘Eric Muller Chandler’ claiming to be an American soldier serving in Afghanistan..in a few days i checked him out found out he was actually from Ghana..next time I spoke with him I questioned him about his lies and he admittted it to me..I asked him why do people like you do this to lonely unsuspecting woman? His reply was to supplement his income.. its the most cruelest low thing a man can do..not only to take hard working people’s money, but play with their heart and mind..And also impesonating soldiers that put their lives on the line an may wish for some real companionship with a lady…I said you people make me sick!! And blocked him…He was on myb…Another one goes by the name of Ryan Drakesford…Beware of him…Thank you..
Debbie, the so called Captain Mike Bernace is definitely a scammer. He emailed me on Love & Seek a few times and expressed his great love for me in a few days. He was caught in his lies since he’d told me he had retired from the U.S. army and now is working as an engineer in N.Y. He said he had a son and a divorced wife that he supported. He said he wanted to ask for a transfer to be close to me to discuss and plan for marrieage but when he mentioned that he’d paid money to the man who took his request, I started suspecting his intentions. Then, I found him on facebook and sent an email saying if he wanted an honest woman which he had claimed earlier, he needed to start off by being honest himself. He sent a short email a few days after my email and I never responded to him again. He is obviously a liar and a scammer.
I joined a dating site and immediately started laughing when men started emailing trying to hit me up on im claiming to be a US Soldier. I could tell immediately they were frauds and notified the site. Today for fun I googled a few of the names I was given (I also gave them to the military with the isp address) and that is how I found this site….
Janet,
You are being scammed you are not talking to the real soldier. As the daughter of a retired Army CID (Criminal Investigations Department) I grew up in the military. I grew up outside of Annapolis so many of my close friends went to the Academy.
My daughter’s father was an officer in the marine corps. Every military person is issued a military email address and will correspond through that address since it is a secured email address that can not be hacked while overseas.
Any person claiming to be a soldier who uses yahoo, hotmail, gmail and will not give you a military email address is a fraud or cheating on his spouse!!
Want to verify if he is real…ask what his rank, mos and unit are, how long he has been in. (I laughed when the one guy claimed to be 46 and a captain in the Army. You make captain at 28-30.) Also ask him who his commanding officer is. No real soldier will have a problem giving you that information.
Then once you have his unit, CO, go on the department of the Army’s website, or whatever service they claim to be in and search for the unit. Every unit has a page. It will tell you where the unit is currently deployed. It will also give you contact information for the unit. Use the contact information to email the CO and verify that this person you are corresponding with is actually the same soldier that is in the unit. A soldier will not get in trouble if some one is seeking to verify they are really communicating with them. In fact the Army appreciates when some one alerts them to a possible scam. If your “soldier” refuses to give you any information or says he will get in trouble…he is not really a soldier. Or my favorite I cannot tell you because of secrecy. Then ask yourself if what they are doing is so top secret how and why are they emailing you? They wouldn’t be. Ever date or know a seal/ranger ., I have when they are deployed…no communication. They are not searching for love they are doing their job!! The military is aware of the scams as are every soldier and they are doing what they can to stop them. It is your responsibility to verify who you are talking to, not the military.
Oh and here is a novel concept…try actually writing a letter. Use the post office, write him via his unit address. Every soldier receives mail only through their unit. No soldier will be getting mail via Africa or Russia, they receive US Mail through a unit address. Be smart.
Lastly, don’t be foolish, no one can fall in love after a few chats…love takes time. If he looks too good to be true, he probably is.
Can any one tell me if there are scam banks out there that there using.. In like london?
It’s to Late Margret.. Now we wait for the ball to drop.
Hi Beverly – I once signed up on Badoo last year. Every man I met on this site turned out to be a scammer. It was upwards to about 12 at the time. It didn’t take me long to realize what they were since they all had the same story and approach. I also met them on Shytle.fm, and Netlog. Not one that claimed to be a soldier, was a real one.
To Doris : First I hope I am not too late posting this, and I do hope in the name of God you find a way to stop this lady from sending such an outrageous amount of money to this scammer. I googled the name Raymond Makula and this name is listed in Legacy.com. The person is deceased which is probably where this scammer got the name. I hope you can get her to read the posts here on this website and the criteria Sgt Robert McLaughlin lists for us to check on people claiming to be military. She needs to do some serious research work and fast.
To Sandra Pattinson SGT Cox is a known scammer He is listewdon google
TO APRIL
Americans are NEVER stationed in Nigeria and if he asks for money he is a scammer
Has any one heard from a commander Raymond Makula he is suppose to be special forces in Kabul Afghanastan. He said he seen this man shot in the street in front of his son and the son gave him this black box and the son is in the hospital and he needs to send the box to me blah blah blah? Also he is retiring from the Military he claims to be German and he has been in the Military for 30 years now and President Obama is coming to Afghanastan for the Celebration then he has to go to Washington Dc (he claims to be special forces) for another celebration. He also wants to transfer all his money to me (actually my friend) before he retires here real soon. Set up a bank account with the bank in London Chartier I believe it is, I need help fast she is going to western union TOMARRO to send 1,999 dollars to this bank. I know he is a scammer. he also said things like his wife died many years ago his dad owned a business in Germany, she wont listen to anything we tell her. he loves her and when they start a conversation they say “In GOD WE TRUST.
I thought I would let you know scammers are very busy on Badoo and Wayn at this time and Yearbook
Hullo JANET I say this first because I am so suspicious when NZ is a small country a long way from anywhereI am suspicious oif why any man would want romance from a NZer especially my age Ive yet to have contact with anyone honest Ive had scammers galore with very elaborate stories Facebook included
And American he may say but African he is The govt here warns us of foreign romance too So Many women have been bitten
Sorry to put a damper on it but i do wish you good luck
Beverley Ann
I have been corresponding with a military man claiming to be Capt. Mike Bernace. When we started to chat he claimed to be in Kabul, Afghanistan and has since been deployed to Lagos, Nigeria(imagine that). He claims to have a home in NY and a 15 yr old son in the 8th grade..must be really slow..at 15 I was in 10th grade. He claims his son is living with gramma in LA and lost his mom 5 years ago. He has a FB page and is using same pics there that are on his profile on the dating site I met him on(Love and Seek.com) supposed to be Christian men…not so much. I told him yesterday after speaking to him on the phone that he was no more Capt Mike than I was. His voice didn’t sound American at all and know that he must be a scammer as I have had a couple run ins with them before. He didn’t get a chance to bring up the money situation but like all the rest proclaimed his undying love for me in only 3 days of chatting on yahoo. Today he sends me Request for leave authorization and tells me what it is going to cost him to take this leave to come see me..I just laughed. Also sent a Warrant of Leave Authorization signed by Chief of Staff for Policy Noah Kroloff, Mary Ellen Callahan, Chief Privacy Officer and Pete Green, Secretary of the U.S. Army..really looks official but I will try to have that verified tomorrow. So if anyone has heard of Capt. Mike Bernace of the US Army I would be interested to know. Thanks, Debbie
Janet, you say you found the real soldier because he has the same pics that the fake one had…how do you know it is not the fake one? Unless you write to his .mil email address then you simply have the same or another scammer, that’s all there is to it.
Hi Janet..I truly hope you have found a real soldier..Good luck to you..But photo’s can be deceptive..Ask him to write you from his .mil address this if authentic is a sure way to find out if he is real..For your sake I hope he is…..Sandi
