Internet Dating Scam: Fake Soldiers

I just came across a post on “A Soldier’s Perspective” discussing a rather disgusting and disturbing trend that has guys posing as soldiers on Internet dating sites. Here’s the quote from CJ’s:

The latest trend involves trolling internet dating sites and convincing women that they are honorable Soldiers who have fallen in love and would do anything to communicate with the object of their affection. But, because they are deployed to Afghanistan or Iraq, they need you to sign up for an expensive telecommunications service like “Military TELEX” in order to make that happen. They profess unending love as their motivator and, unfortunately, many women have fallen for it.

The BIG red flag here is that the guy is asking for money. NEVER fall for that con.

If you come across anyone on a dating site who is asking you for money, regardless of the reason; block them immediately from further contact and then report them to the internet dating service.

You can also check out who is really behind their email address…

AND / or their telephone number…

To read specific details about about one incident, read CJ’s post “The New Military Dating Scam”.

Hi Everyone – Here are a couple new names I have to report that are scammers. (1) Jacob Allison claims to be Army in Kabul. Posting a pic of deceased Military man. Trying to get money. (2) Frank Scott. Claims to live in Georgia, USA. Family deceased. Says he is a civil engineer. I googled his pic he has posted and I got a ton of alias’s he uses on the Internet. A couple are John Williams & Frank Pepe. He is on Badoo as Jose Wilson. There he lives in Chicago, and is an independent contractor. Avoid any of these names.

  9. Thanks for this article, Im from a country were army does not exist but for sure fary tales neighter . So on Badoo this “charming” guy who’s ID is Worthy and name Bradley Miller started writing me an too soon talking about love and such, yesterday he made me go to a site that was supposed to be he’s banking account and made see how much money he had. Following to that he stated telling that was to be our money and that he wanted to meet me so bad b that he needed me to write hes general to fill a form and pay a fee that was refoundable. That was when the bells started to ring and common seance appear again, so I started looking for military scam blogs and pages and asked him to chat on Skype he say it was against the rules, then asked him for a mailing address to send him stuff and guess what !!!! he was not able because they are unreachable and last but not least I asked him for his AKO address and guess what again that was classified and that was when he snapped and started telling what a bitch i was not believing him and how he wanted me to stop writing him. So anyway the scary part is how many of this scamers are, how sad they use soldiers pictures, please be careful I’ve learn the lesson and i m grateful for learning the truth before something happend…… If any Bradley miller from NY (brad.miller-0@hotmail.com) write to you just erase him he is a lie.

  10. Hello ., has any one heard of the person that calls himself Master Sargent Huynh Adams. Email address is Huynhadams@yahoo.com. I met him on a met and great dating web site like every one here. Ladies.., watch out. He say’s his wife is dead and he has a son named John being taken care of by his aunt in London. He claims to be Vietnamese and in the army stationed in Kabul. We met in October last year and have been talking ever since. All innocent until he ask for money because his son got really sick. So he said. I., believing the story sent it. After much of his begging and pleading for his son not to die. And then it started.., the Saddama Millions story. Let’s just say.., I believed again. I am out of a lot on money. I am asking to send 20,000 or the money will be lost and an investigation will take place. Well.., I can say that the money will not happen and I guess the so called account will be lost along with my money I put toward it. I have until July 20th 2014 to deliver it . Ha.., I don’t have 20,000 for myself lest known someone I have not even met as of yet. I am going to see where this go”s come the 20th. I will write again. Ladies.., this Huynh Adams has homey words and a pleasant conversation. He has a lot of dreams and is looking for a soul mate. So he says. He was due to retire from the army last November but it seems like they keep moving his date. Now it is for august2014. Ha.., we will see if this holds true when I don’t send the money . I have a feeling this will be the last I hear from him. There is no honor among thieve” s and obviously no conscience either. To mess with someone’s feelings…, is a sin in itself. I have no one to blame but myself. A listen learned for sure. Will write more later.

I have someone contacting me on Facebook who claims his name is Lt. Jacob Allison in Kabul. The picture on his profile I googled and I got a Lt. Jacobs. No Allison connected to his name. So he is using the picture and modifying the name. I have not accepted him as a friend as I do not do that. Has asked me to send his “son” Jack $300 to help him with a plane ticket to leave Nigeria…..lol. I wish he knew how many times this scenario has been packaged and played for me……

  16. looking for information on captain david Shannon or david baughn….if you find anything email me please.

  17. Hi… A month ago I met a “military ” through a dating chat, has been very polite to me , and used properly speaking “American” expressions when talking. He’s from NY, has two children and is divorced. He is currently in Afghanistan and sent me an email from his “official account ” ( ….. @usarmy.mil ). He has sent me photos by email but none of them appears on the Internet . He says part of the 32nd Infantry Regiment, Fort Drum, Camp Phoenix, Afghanistan. 46 years old and says he returned from his deployment in November. We communicate mostly by email and IM yahoo. He said that he can’t reach me via Skype for security , I asked him for a pic where he appears with my name on a paper and tells me that his range ( LT ) can’t because he must lead by example. We talked a lot , he told me he wants to marry me. Using military terms when to stop talking to me for some reason but we communicate every day , often at the same times . He tells me to get a satellite phone to talk but I said that he is in charge of the matter , said to have one to communicate with his children. He has sent me poems and he tells me that are from Internet, without asking him if are his own… I don’t know what to think , of course he swear to tell me the truth and that he is real… Obviously I will not give money to him, even monopoly money!!!! But don’t know what else to do to check if he’s real or not … I appreciate any tip or information that you can provide!!!

  18. Ok so I’m trying to figure out if the guy I’m talking to is a scammer. Some of the stuff fits the scammers profile but some of it don’t. He hasn’t ask me for money.
He hasn’t ask for my actual address (he knows which twin a live in)
He is very knowledgable about the military and all the places check out.
He gave me his address in the military. However, there are other red flags. He was in a dating website and ask to go to email and IM. He uses a yahoo acct. He talked about love very quickly, he is in Afghanistan about to retire after 22 yrs. he is divorce and had a terrible experience in his last marriage 7 yrs ago, etc. I told him a million times that I wasn’t sure if he was real and at he kept saying that he is and what else I want to know. I have been very clear that I’m not falling for a scam so he could move on to an easier target but ge is still hanging there. ?????????? Any advice?

  19. Heads up ppl..im ex law enforcement and my old partner is a police officer in Afghanistan.kabul..he advised me that Camp Eggar is closed has been atleast two months..it was turned over to the state dept so there is no military curr
ntly at that camp..if these buttholes say they are there now..red flag..my partner and i are on the trail of Sgt 1st Class Roger Handson..just putting it out there..

    • i incounter name sgt david witczak asking money for his leave vacation,he said his in eggers, not eggar kabul afghanistan its a real scam, coz i been scammed not long ago that someone pretend to be an army for peace keeping unit in syria, iam dumbed.

    • Yolanda contact me please

  20. Sgt 1st Class..supposively Roger Handson always emailed me and at the bottom of the email it always said..sent from military device from Kabul Afghanistan..almost had me..suppose to be at Camp Eggar…its aweful how these criminals are getting away with fraud and hurting innocent ppl…just terrible..

  21. LTG Keith C Walker wanted me to purchase a military phone..we chatted via email and text..He called four times..sounded like he was from the carribean..i googled him and heard audio and these were clearly not the same ppl…

  22. LTG Keith C Walker..asked for 500$ to apply for granted leave..also wanted my bank acct info to supposively have money from a home he was selling transferred into myacct..suppose to be. .stationed in Texas..and also Roger Handson..supposively in Afghanistan carried on a 9 month online relationship..also asking for 300$ to marry me and leave the war zone..i have photos of both men..

    • I have also been talking to LTG Keith C Walker. He tells me he is in Nigeria now. Wants me to send him money to buy some things he needs. I have googled him also and I agree he is not he same person that is in the pictures. I hope they find out who is impersonating this officer and get him. He asked me to send money to pat for his leave papers. He told me he was stationed at fort Hood in Texas and he is supposed to retire this year. He told me he is divorced. I met him on facebook. He sent me a msg. After the third one I finally answered him. Now I wish I hadn’t.

    • Do you have photos of the person he really is or just ones of the real LTG Walker. If you have pics of the fake one who is a scammer I would love to see it. Thanks

    • sharon damron says

i would like to see the photo you have of LTG Keith C Walker. I really need to find out if this is the same man who has been emailing me. Please send me the photo you have of him so I can see. This is very important to me. If you can and will do this I would appreciate it very much if you could do it as soon as possible. Thank you so much. Sharon Damron. My email is sharon_damron@yahoo.com.

Has anyone heard the name Whitney Wart? I have been chatting with him on his facebook yahoo messenger and e-mailing back and forth … Hasn’t asked me to send him anything but when I ask to do voice chat he says that he is using his friends phone and don’t know if he can use that from it… I used one of the ladies ideas about the picture being taken with a sign on him just few minutes ago he said he would but we will see… Yes I believe him to be a scammer because language is not the same as we would speak here and when I said something to him about it he said he don’t understand so I didn’t explain as he would figure out how we speak here and get smarter that way also… He asked me to sent up an account on the asaa web site said it was for military accounts so he could have is money sent there and I haven’t done it i’m afraid it’s some kind of scam… Well I will post more when I find out if he is real or fake using someone elses photos …If anyone could give feed back would be helpful … Thank You Wendy
