Internet Dating Scam: Fake Soldiers

I just came across a post on “A Soldier’s Perspective” discussing a rather disgusting and disturbing trend that has guys posing as soldiers on Internet dating sites. Here’s the quote from CJ’s:

The latest trend involves trolling internet dating sites and convincing women that they are honorable Soldiers who have fallen in love and would do anything to communicate with the object of their affection. But, because they are deployed to Afghanistan or Iraq, they need you to sign up for an expensive telecommunications service like “Military TELEX” in order to make that happen. They profess unending love as their motivator and, unfortunately, many women have fallen for it.

The BIG red flag here is that the guy is asking for money. NEVER fall for that con.

If you come across anyone on a dating site who is asking you for money, regardless of the reason; block them immediately from further contact and then report them to the internet dating service.

You can also check out who is really behind their email address…

AND / or their telephone number…

To read specific details about about one incident, read CJ’s post “The New Military Dating Scam”.

  5. Been talking to someone who says he’s in the military serving in Afghanistan. Met on a social network. Goes by the name Maxwell D. Miller says he’s from Lubbock Texas. Hasn’t asked for any money as of yet. But says he’s the only child of his parents who he lost when he was young. Been emailing each other for almost a month now. Seemed legit but not my first time at the rodeo. Anyway he was answering my questions the first few emails. I’m a bit skeptical so started doing research. Haven’t found anything on him or his pics on any other scam site. But, found that the emails he is sending are all over the place. Tried to track his IP address comes back not found. Anyone recognize the name. Would love to know. Good looking guy of pics he sent but sure its not him. Any help would be great.

  6. I got scammed from a guy claiming to be a Tom Obrien stationed in Nigeria. Boy did I fall for this one, I had no idea these scammers are real professionals. He claimed he needed $200 to fix his laptop that got bombed in a raid? I sent the money to his “Agent” in Nigeria. That sure hurts like hell I tell you.

    • Margaret Rodgers says

Sorry Sonia. Yep no US Military bases in Nigeria that I heard of. He’s stationed in Nigeria alright, because he’s Nigerian and lives there !! Oh and our Military do not have “Agents”, only scammers have pick up people, known as “Agents”.

Hold on everyone. ….The next one you will see them using is a soldier stationed in Poland. Our paratroopers are headed there. PLEASE don’t fall for that one. They won’t be contacting ladies from any dating site.

      • Just go scammed by a person who claimed to be military in Afghanistan. Asked me to send a package of candy, toys , games for the kids in Afghanistan orphanage. I sent the package and then an agent in Ghanna contacted me stating that I needed to send 200.00 in customs taxes for the box. I called USPS international and they said it was a scam. Ouch! It does hurt big time!

  9. Good news! I`ve been scammed by a military from Quwait! Henry Martin, he said, he was. He sent me some photos of himself and his little baby girl, Kimberly. He said he was from Florida and was 43 years old. I asked him about his life and said he is from New Zeealand and moved to USA when his father died. Of course, his wife died giving birth….Such a jerk! He must be a Nigerian Scamm. He uses ,,i “instead of I and I suppose stolen photos. The wedding ring is very ewll exposed in the photos, of course. Feel pity for the real one in the pictures. I contacted him from Mate1.com. He had a Yahoo e-mai address on and sent him a message on February 20, 2014. He answered in March, and we have been e-mailed for 2 weeks and chatted on IM. I became very suspicious when he asked me to make a subscription for some kind of a root machine communication, so we can talk unlimited, but I had to give $500 . Well, from the moment I said I need some time to think, he said Good Bye and that was the big deal. I can upload the photos he send me if necessary. One more clue, His IP seems to be located somewhere in Sunnyvale, CA, but that is all I can say. Soon after that I received a private message from Facebook from a certain Mary Cole or so. It was spelled in my language but it was obviously translated on Google because it was so bad! I even had an E-mail address and begged her, or hin….to use English. So, cpthenrymartin@yahoo.com, dear ladys!

    • I am texting with henry and emailing him now. I saw some photos of him and his little girl Kimberly. He is a bad person because the only thing he wants it money then f him off. I also met henry martin on mate1.

      • Mary Cremeans says

Sounds like a guy I met on meetme , same age , daughter named Kimberly … Wants money n to talk about sex . But he goes by the name John Kelley , also on fb as Chris Jakes and Jakes Chris . Talked to him for 11 months then he quit talking when I didn’t open a bank acct for him .

  12. Hello,
I am on the dating site called Look its me,i was sent a message by a US army guy, said his home was LA,California,on a (MIssion) in Lagos Nigeria, was chatting to him for around a month,he uses the name Dunnmark David also i found Wale Dunn,Dunnmark David S,after i chatted to him on IM and then came onto my FB,it was then that the broken English came, not any bad spelling to speak of but words that just didn’t fit in where they should do,thats when i thought hey come on here this is bull, then the pushing to come and see me began, then the fiance form(£1500 )and send money to get him out to come here to see me,WOOO,no chance as soon as i heard the words western union and i see this form i laughed and what a joke,it wasn’t even a good fake,it was awful,i was given 3 mail address for the US Army and his own yahoo mail,so i started to test him, drivers licence, home address, which i did google and it does exist,Army I.D card his Bank in the U.S and the account number, not bad fakes but not good enough to get passed me,i have family in the U.S so i sent all to my cousin who confirmed what i knew all (fake) also i have the address of the so called agent and the agents name(Mack Nelson George) i told this person in so many words to go away,i have had all the crap about being on a mission and U.S Army laws &&&&&,its been 2 weeks of hell, him sending me lots of pictures and a picture of a little girl who he says is his daughter,it got so intense he said i want to call you to prove that i am the man in the picture so he called me and i listened to him and i can honestly say i have never used words in my life like i did that night and still he tried to say my voice isn’t good because i was in Afghanistan and now in Nigeria,O and his wife died 5 years ago and his daughter is 7 years old and she is staying with friends,i asked to see his passport but of cause the general commander won’t permit that because of security hahahahaha,i am very pleased that i have got my head screwed on and i have good eyes and good senses, but also i am very angry with myself for getting attached to a bloody picture, because i now resent the poor guy & none of this is his fault,i would love to find out his real name

    • Margaret Rodgers says

Carol there are no US troops in Nigeria. In the last 31/2 years I have been contacted by at least 300 people claiming to be Military. They all asked for money and they ALL turned out to be scammers. I only found one that was real and he was a pervert !! Our soldiers do not have time to sit on dating sites on the internet. They are consumed with their jobs and our security. Never make friends with them on your Facebook. Once they are into your page they really are only looking at your friends who they can make potential victims. Block them on your messenger otherwise they will continue to contact you. They also will give your email to other scammers to try and “score”. Read the many posts on this site. It is meant to educate you.

      • Hi,well thank you for your reply,o i do know what you are telling me,but im thankful that i have a god given gift (MY BRAIN)!!!!,i have done all the blocking &&&&&,but i just wanted to put it on here! so other people can see it ok! i thought this was the best place to put it,so other people can see it,not to be told off like a naughty child!!!!i did say in my report that i did send all to my cousin in U.S,really at the end of the day, something has to be done about this!!!,i really have the bit between my teeth now over this,no way would i part with any money,i’m not that stupid, but some people are!,its an English chat site that i am on and we pay money to be on it, i did put in a report in to FB and his account got closed down,he did tonight send me more pictures to my mail address, its about time there was some sort of way to put pictures and info on site, why is this going on??????

        • wendy brooks says

how do you find out if they are real or not and find out how to really contact the person in the pictures?

          • i got scammed my nigerian using military face deployed in syria for peace keeping unit i’m so damned.he got $4700.

        • in the first i fall for it,coz i don’t have any idea i thought he was a real military,& he asked me to asked his vacation leave so i did, & wire him money through money gram to his agent in nigeria, the name of his agent apadidun clement,i don’t have any idea that military they don’t have agent until i found this website, and after that he has alot of alibi, & then i realized that i’ve been scam by a nigerian scammer,it hurts my pocket he got me $4700.00, & then i realized how stupid i am,why i didn’t do a research before i wire money to his agent i’m so damned, but i learned my lesson now…

  13. Anyone heard of Parter Moore??

  14. Margaret Rodgers says

This is an interesting note I would like to share. I was chatting with two scammers and stopped around the end of January or early Feb. with both. It took only about a week before my Facebook page was divulged with friend requests from soldiers and all appear to be scammers. Here are the names so please if you come across these rats don’t even bother.
Allen Banks, Ferninand Mcgee, Jacob Allison, Larry Garcia, Jones David, Robert Brad, Bolen Josh, Richard Williams, Mcgee James, Coley Shane, Williamb Caldwell, Mark Anderson, & Collins Moore. Some deleted their facebook pages when i would not friend them. Most are still on. I guess they thought they would try their luck. Just too funny. Just want to warn you do not make friends on Facebook with anyone you do not know or cannot connect to another friend or family.

  15. Margaret Rodgers says

Civil war has Syria so torn apart their main objective is to just stay alive or try and get out of there. Read the headlines and think. Real soldiers arn’t asking for money or phones, they don’t need to.

  16. Beverley Sutherland says

thankyou for warning Margaret Young people belong to that site Badoo in NZ

  17. MSG Robert McLaughlin says

Anyone we have in Syria ios NOT going to be on a dating site.

    • Thank you Sir! I had two men pretending to be Army, stationed in Syria, asking for money. I didn’t believe either one.

    • I have a question would we have anyone there talking about it period and how can we verify if the people we are talking to are really who they say they are please

      • Margaret Rodgers says

Anne – one of the ways I tried was to request they send a picture of themselves holding up a paper saying ” Hi Maggie”. I never received any because they were fakes. They did not want me to see who they really were. Any time I asked for their .Mil email address, they could never provide that either. Two sure signs they are not who they say they are. Some could not even tell me the name of the base they were stationed on. You could ask them to Skype with you but if they are fake they will just make up an excuse why they can’t or say no for security reasons which I believe is not true. I have traced the IP numbers on their emails and found they are not in the country they claim to be. That helps. I’ve been trying to find the answer to your question for over 3 years. Perhaps the only way we really will know is if they want us to know.

  18. Beverley Sutherland says

  20. Beverley Sutherland says

Renee this jerk is a scammer He has been on before as being in Afghanistan Drop him like a hot spud

  21. Beverley Sutherland says

any soldier claiming to be in Syria or anywhere else like sudan are clearly scammers
    Bevrley

  22. Margaret Rodgers says

For Everyone – Advising to stay off Badoo and Netlog, extremely infested with scammers.

Don’t believe we have troops in Syria. They are engaged in a civil war but I don’t believe we have sent our troops in there. Perhaps MSG Robert McLaughlin can weigh in on this one.

I checked out this Litton guy and it appears he states he lives in Hamah which is south of Alleppo where much is going on. I hardly doubt a soldier would be “living” in a city there instead of being on a base, which I don’t believe we even have one. Much of the info on him I was able to gather left me seriously with doubts and suspicion.

Any one who claims to be a soldier, asking for money or a phone, or claiming no access to their money ( which is a lie) you can bet is a scammer.

    • thats true coz i’ve been scam by nigerian scammer stationed in syria i was so damned i fall for it.. now i learn my lesson..

  23. How does one “date” someone in Syria?? And you warn about “scambags” but are clearly “dating” another one. You think this guy in Syria is real Mary?? Good luck….

Told me he needed money for leave. NOT. Didn’t send a dime, haven’t heard from him since. Really elaborate story. And the other guys is Brian Duffield, has a facebook page and obviously has other ladies roped in. Wanted money for a birthday party. Like I just fell off the turnip truck. Not going to happen.Be careful ladies!!!
