I just came across a post on “A Soldier’s Perspective” discussing a rather disgusting and disturbing trend that has guys posing as soldiers on Internet dating sites. Here’s the quote from CJ’s:
The latest trend involves trolling internet dating sites and convincing women that they are honorable Soldiers who have fallen in love and would do anything to communicate with the object of their affection. But, because they are deployed to Afghanistan or Iraq, they need you to sign up for an expensive telecommunications service like “Military TELEX” in order to make that happen. They profess unending love as their motivator and, unfortunately, many women have fallen for it.
The BIG red flag here is that the guy is asking for money. NEVER fall for that con.
If you come across anyone on a dating site who is asking you for money, regardless of the reason; block them immediately from further contact and then report them to the internet dating service.
You can also check out who is really behind their email address…
AND / or their telephone number…

Are they really in Iraq? Somehow I don’t think so. The US Embassy her is Canada are of no help and more or less called me foolish. If these soldier’s identy have been stolen I would think the US Army would want to know. Is there anyone in the US Government who we can contact and report suspected soldier’s identy theft? I would think this would be of interest to the US Military.

I am in contact with a Lucas Livingstone for two weeks now. He claims to be assigned in Afghan at the moment,met him on datetheuk,widowed,wife died in auto crash 4 yrs ago. I have chatted with him a few times,fell in love with me too soon, declared his undying love and wish to take leave to visit me but I noted some inconsistencies with his answers so I did my checks (i.e he said he is based in Camp Soleno so I checked up US bases and it was Camp Salerno.) He recently told me he was slightly injured on an attack on 25 Aug.,I again checked news updates but no attack was encountered by troops that day. We chatted on Sunday 29 Aug,the day news report came out that his camp base was attacked at dawn, he never mentioned it..it gave me the idea that I knew more of what was happening out in Afghan than he does.He mentioned that he wishes to hasten his leave request to visit him, by me writing a letter to the military.I told him it was quite wierd thing to do but he was persistent so I agreed for him to send me email regarding request.As of this writing, he has not sent anything yet.I checked US military leave policies on line as was sure something is not right and Bingo! found these threads.I am more than convinced now that this guy is a fake. Last email received from him yesterday, the usual love crazed (copy and paste)quotations blah blah.
May I ask some advice what to do next?
I met a E-6 Sr. SGT Janys Rivera based in Iraq in a dating site & immediately communicate thru MSN with Janys 1@live.com. Daily love letters and MSN chat and he said he is retiring within months and looking for a fresh start and everything that life has to offer. I will tell you his story in case his used it again to other innocent woman. His told me his ex-wife had an affair and has a son who is 13 years old and physical abused her own mother. He loved me as soon as we meet and asked me to marry him. He claimed because for security reasons soldiers were not allow to have money or credit cards as everything soldiers needs the military will provided. One day he told me he also had a contract with the Minister of Defence. He received a huge lump-sum of money for his service and some gold chains. He was afraid The General will find out and he will be in trouble so he asked a Diplomat to bring this package to me because he is coming home and to marry me. This Diplomat (Phillip Hillhouse) contacts me through e mails and phone calls and pressure me to co-operate with him so he can deliver the package to me. This was the time that I found out that I was involved with everything to do with this package. This Diplomat has claimed the package was withhelded with the Custom people in Ghana and seeking for money before the package is released. They asked me U$5000 money transfer to Airport Accra Custom office; so the package will be safe for delivery. Without the money the Ghanaian will taken the package away; knowing this corrupt country and the package is very important to my fiancé (someone I never meet yet). I have no time to think rationally and act selfishness when he told me the package worth over $ 1.5 Million. I betted on my love, money, time, and kindness to this soldier; I wanted him to have his retirement money so I wired the money and expected the custom officers to release the Diplomat and the package. The Diplomat said they are not able to cash the money via Western Union so I called the head office and found out this is a fraud. Western Union has many cases like mine are these people are on the black list and they refund money back. This happened in less than 12 hours. This scammer (soldier) asked me to send to another person but I refused and stop talking to him.

Well Ladies I have sat in front of my computer reading every word you have written and I to have been scammed, not once but twice in less then 5 mths. I am just sick!
My scammers were/are U.S. Sgt. William England at Camp Taji, Iraq and U.S. Staff Sgt. Kessler Grahalm Hargardstaedt at Camp Liberty, Iraq and his so called son Emmanuel Tetteh who lives in Ghana. Their accomplices are Mark Miller and John Rolland from Liberty Empire Group a diplomat service; Yussif Karim Ghana; Agyapong Nyame Ghana; Emmanuel Bentil Owusu Ghana.
Sgt. William England’s story was he and his squad were offered millions of dollars it they would let a notorious terrorist they captured go. He had a silver box containing $1.7+ million dollars in U.S. $100.00 bills and gold bars. He sent me a picture of the box of money. He referred to the box his luggage and needed to get it out of Iraq before he was redeployed home to his base in England. There is a problem at the Ghana customs and more money is needed to bribe the officer. That’s when I feared for my life and hit delete (but the harrasment hasn’t stopped).
He is 45 yrs.old, born in Germany, at 9 moved to the U.S. to North Carolina where his 20 yr.old son lives and goes to Duke U. Wife died 5 yrs.ago of cancer. Loves England and doesn’t want to return to the U.S. and of course he plans to retire from the army as soon as he gets home.
SSG Kessler Hargardstaedt story is: 1. his son needs a computer and internet to keep in contact with him. 2. His son is in a car accident and needs an operation. It’s a private hospital and the doctors won’t operate until they get money. Then there is money needed for the hospital and physiotherap. To top things off a money thank you gift to the person who kept us updated and picked up the money I sent via MoneyGram.
Kessler is 47 yrs.old, born in Brooklyn, NY, California National Guard, home in California and Miami, 5 cars. His son was a love child and after her death the boy goes to Ghana to live with his grandmother. He marries on the rebound and has a 16 yr.old daughter Diana. His ex cheated on him with his best friend and has been divorced 5 yrs.
His son just contacted me today to ask for his tuition money and that’s when I came to my senses. I can’t pretend to myself anymore. I HAVE BEEN SCAMMED!
I’m I so desprite for love that I let this happen to me? After my husband’s (married 31 yrs.)death I didn’t care if I were alone even though I was only 52 yrs.old but after 4 years I felt alone for the first time. I always thought I was a smart woman … how did I let this happen? I can’t believe it.

I have been chatting to a Richard Ruddock who I met through Match.com. Said he was in Afganistan and was retiring soon, he was widowed and had a daughter. Smooth talker brought up marriage pretty fast, got suspicous when he wanted to send a package over to me and then he kept getting confused about whether he had a son or daughter.
I saw the other posts on here about a Ruddock and had a look on ‘a soldier perspective wall of shame’ and guess what one of the pictures on there was one he had emailed me. The email address he was using rrichard_2010@live.com

I was contacted by SGT CARLOS AMANDO through dating for parents, he sent me six messages and photo’s said his parents were dead, had a daughter who is nearly seventeen, who lives with her tutor who is her guardian and his wife died too. I got suspicious when he asked for my mobile number to contact me in the day (he’s in Afghanistan) on patrol. I put his name on google and found this website, I sent him a message on msn asking him if he had access to a web cam and haven’t heard from him since.
wow. glad I found this site. Wish I had found this a week ago, would not have shipped a computer suppossedly to his son….I didn’t pay for the comp. Suppossedly he is in afghanistan and needed this sent to his son there (nigeria)…and other army guys sons are there too….He had a comp sent to me to sell to get the money for the shipping….has anyone had anything like this…today I figured it out about the ip address and found it to be lagos nigeria….This finding all the info the last couple of days was quite by accident…on facebook I clicked to have a ckeck to find people in my address book using addresses from my email account and was surprised when his email address came up with a nigerian name, and when he had told me previously he wasnt on FB, that started me on some research…. His name is Captain AlAN SAVIL of the army …anyone run across this one before….
Hi I have been in contact with a Sgt. David Stewart for about a week now. He contacted me through Biker Or Not.com. Says he’s 41, his wife died,has a 17 yr old son living with his mother. And yes My red flags started flying within 3 days when He started proclaiming his love to me, Doesn’t even know anything. Strange.
I’m wondering how I get his name and pics added to the list of so many of those losers. What’s really sickening he’s Saying his wife died of Breast Cancer. I just lost my sister a few months ago of Cancer, that’s really low to use that as a ploy. I really feel bad also for all those sweet military guys whose pictures are stolen and being used for this.

I have had a Captain Irwin Petterson supposedly special forces based in Afghanistan contact me. Initial contact through match.com & then quickly reverted to MSN with irwinpetterson@yahoo.com as his email. It took to the second day for him to request £1000 for a secure tunnel line for phone & internet & then there must have been a sale on as it got reduced to £500. Uses same application form for phone as already sited here.
This guy uses emotional blackmail & high pressure selling techniques , sends fake ID cards to endorse his story & you get love poens daily….lol.He also tried to get me to set up additional email addresses for him. Luckily I had heard of these types of scams so no email addresses set up or money exchanged.
I have photos, fake ID card etc if required. Has anyone else had the delights if Captain Irwin Petterson ?

since my last update i have found yet another 2 profiles on Leonard peters he is using his name the other way round. i have now warned him that i know but i made sure i collected more info from him before i did this. I have given him a few hours 2 come clean and then i an contacting these women to let them know. He e mailed me this morning to tell me he would have to call me on the phone for a while as the internet is down yet he sent the message via email what an idiot
Well like everyone I didn’t think it would happen to me and I fell hook, line and sinker for Daniel BARDEN, supposedly a Sargent stationed in Iraq about to retire and wanted to move to a new place in the US and “start all over”…..through some ironic circumstances, I found out that he was in Ghana and I had already read on here that most of the scams cocme from the northwestern part of Africa. The good news is that I talked to the real Sgt. Barden today and he is alive, well and at home in Virginia with his wife and kids…the scammer took his pics from My Space which apparantly did not have very good security. Thanks to Facebook, i found out his location…. take care to all of y’all and hope we all find a real person to love us.

says he has a son Collin in a “Military House” in Miami, lost his wife Lisa and son Paul in a car wreck 5 years ago BEWARE OF THIS NAME I BELIEVE HE IS A SCAMMER .

Since my last update i have also found another profile on this man. I cant believe what he has done to me. It has now been said he has been injured in Afghanistan and has been shot in the head. This is what he has told this other woman and how is now regaining his memory and is recovering and is gonna go and be with her soon. I really fear for her as she has fallen for his lies and he has actually spoken to her on the phone. I want to tell her but i dont want her to think im just jelous. She may not believe me. I just dont want her to be waiting at the airport for him to arrive and never turn up. Bella

I had someone contact me saying he was a Staff Sergeant called George Ruddock and indeed sent me pictures of a military man with Ruddock on his uniform. He also included the same man with his children and him on holiday, quite convincing, and so it was untill he started to talk about treasure he had found, Yeh! right, born yesterday, nope. I immediately checked out the e-mail address he told me to contact to arrange with a diplomat to get the package home! Guess what yes it is used for scamming diplomats.com! I feel sorry for the poor soldier whose face he is using and also the faces of his children! where he got the photos heaven only knows! Beware, they need to be stopped,i wasnt gullible, but some poor lady maybe.
