Internet Dating Scam: Fake Soldiers

I just came across a post on “A Soldier’s Perspective” discussing a rather disgusting and disturbing trend that has guys posing as soldiers on Internet dating sites. Here’s the quote from CJ’s:

The latest trend involves trolling internet dating sites and convincing women that they are honorable Soldiers who have fallen in love and would do anything to communicate with the object of their affection. But, because they are deployed to Afghanistan or Iraq, they need you to sign up for an expensive telecommunications service like “Military TELEX” in order to make that happen. They profess unending love as their motivator and, unfortunately, many women have fallen for it.

The BIG red flag here is that the guy is asking for money. NEVER fall for that con.

If you come across anyone on a dating site who is asking you for money, regardless of the reason; block them immediately from further contact and then report them to the internet dating service.

You can also check out who is really behind their email address…

AND / or their telephone number…

To read specific details about about one incident, read CJ’s post “The New Military Dating Scam”.

  1. I have been talking to this U.S. soldier for 3 months and then suddenly he asked me to register with the U.S. army so that I could get on the fiancé registry??? Is this the start of a scam?

    • Margaret Rodgers says

Martha – My instincts tell me that it is the beginning of some kind of scam. At this point by your registering on this fake registry, you would be divulging most likely a lot of private info which is what he is trying to get. Be careful and do not give out private info on yourself. These people are tricky and devious and can cause you lots of harm. Start doing some investigating of your own on this person. Any pictures of him ? Look it up on tineye.com and see if there is any info on him. Check on scamwarners.com, and romancescam.com. Ask him his MOS, and for his military email id. It has to end in (dot mil) and not any thing else. This info he can give you. If he cannot then drop him, delete, and block and save yourself.

    • Thank you I have pictures and now they want me to send 501.00 to get registered. How stupid have I been. Thank you your response and the support!!!!

      • Martha – yes it is a scam. There is no registry of this kind in the Military. The Military is not in the business of romance or fiance’ registry…lol. Ignore them, delete, and block. Your not stupid but are learning like all of us have had to. Check your pictures on http://www.tineye.com just for your own info. You can report this to scamwarners.com and romancescam.com for others to see also and be warned. Thank you for listening.

  2. hello I put this scammers pic on tineye but I was not sure what it meant when it said 1 match ? can you explain to me what it meant I clicked on the match and it was a different person

    • Virginia – I think one match means they have one picture reported to them that is the same as you posted. Read all that is there. You can check on Scamwarners.com and see if there is anything on there also and or report it to them as well to Romancescam.com. Sometimes by doing that you will find others reporting the same person.

  3. Hello Margaret…, I was reading about Maria and her situation. My question is., She sent this guy money, and he is tugging at her heart strings asking for more. She should leave with what pride, money and broken heart that she has left. Cut him off right?. I ask.., can he get her in any trouble., like jail or anything in the realm. I know that they will try to make you feel bad, threaten you ., even put up a crying face on yahoo or what ever site you are chatting on. Ladies…,Protect you HEARTS.., you(WE) are better than this BS. What information can you offer on the Margaret. Thanks. Deborah

    • Deborah – thanks for asking for my input. Wow I just read the last two posts from Maria. The worse case scenario.
Once they believe they have you emotionally hooked, they go for the money and all they can get. They are criminals and most operate in a ring. They are very good at what they do. For them it is just considered a “job”. They are well organized, using scripts, and guidelines on how to proceed with women. They get into their heads, and get to know their hopes and dreams and prey on those aspects. All that is important to them is to get as much as the victim is willing to give. They are as cold as a snake, having no feelings, or remorse. The tactics used on Maria are typical of the well trained scammer. For someone just discovering such an individual out there exists is appalling and unbelievable to them. This is one reason most women have a hard time believing this man could do this to them. Everyone wants to be loved. Many will pay hoping this person just might be the one to give that to them and too afraid they’ll lose them if they don’t. This desperation clouds over their reality to what is going on. His using the fear tactic is hope he will keep receiving money. These kind are the worse and most despicable to me as it shows pure callous evil.
No he can’t get her into trouble because first of all he is scamming. But what concerns me is how much is being funneled through them and possibly to terrorists. You don’t want the authorities to start watching where this money is coming from and have to explain why your sending thousands of dollars to someone you have never met. She needs to delete and block this person asap. Their threats are not carried out as far as I know. This website offers so much education and information on what to do. I wish everyone would take advantage on the help here that is offered. Every time I see a scammer succeed it makes my heart sink. Damn them.
Her case is a prime example of what they can do to an individual. I just shake my head in reading her posts. I actually said omg out loud. Everything he told her I have heard before. Manipulation is one of their greatest talents. They use Facebook , collect friends, and then steal their friends to scam them. He was taken off Facebook due to complaints. Never friend someone you do not know. I learned that one the hard way. He told her of a delivery in order to obtain her address, and along with that he also was able to obtain her license. He now has all of her identity he needs. Her biggest concern now should be “identity theft” problems. I’m not sure how sending her the metal part of a gun plays into their nasty scheme of things…but my gut tells me it’s bad. I personally would turn in the gun part and explain what has been going on. This gun part could be their hiding by sending it to her. I urgently hope she stops all correspondence with this one. And please don’t send anymore funds. Surely she must understand she is being played and is putting herself possibly in harms way.

      • Thank you., thank you Margaret. You have helped me a lot. And I hope the rest of the ladies ar reading and listening. We all would love to have someone special in our life’s., but at what cost. It is not worth what they will put you through. Heck.., the things that they write to you in keepers., you can google it and see where it came from. Nothing they say it try. But for those who found a real one…, you are truly blessed. Maria.., take courage., go to life lock or put in a police report to get a 7 year watch in you vitals(social security number., bank cards., credit reports., etc). Yu know what I mean. Protect yourself in that what. Last but not least.., love yourself. And let the worry go. I can say.., been there., done that . You(we) will be ok. You’ll see. Time heals…, time heals. Deborah

        • Thank you Deborah. I hope the ladies are reading and listening also. All my advice comes from a very painful learning lesson of my own. Because of my experiences with them I took it upon myself to learn as much about them as I could.I became a sponge, soaking in as much info as I could get. I have studied them for 4 years. I searched every where on the internet going from one article to the next. There were times I was online all day and half the night also. I even studied the Countries most of them are from. Lots of the info I got about the Military came from my local recruiting office and from this site in order to know if they were lying or not. All were sadly. I once was naive and never heard of a scammer but I know now.

          • I have been talking to a *marine* claiming to be military I don’t have his email just his kik. Screen name oi did send a 100.thats it then he asked me to save 500.00 for him he claims to be in Lybia.ok I emailed a marine and he said there’s no troops over there go figure I have his name and his picture is there a site to report him ?

          • Hello Margarte., hello.., I am back with another question. That is.., if a so called person is in the service(army). And their occupation(job) in said service is as a sniper or is in a so called classified sector. Would they have signed a contract with the army. My mugu is back. Actually M., he never left. Of course he is not giving up info like SSN., drivers license ., you know.., proof of life items because he say’s that he signed a contract . Have you heard this one before. I have cut him off of everything but my phone company say’s they can’t block email’s at this time. He is begging me for 10,000 dollars American. Ha!!!!!., can you believe it. What is it for…, money he say’s found in a cave., dug it up., put it in a bank to hold until he got out. Guess what…, he has been getting out for the last two years. Wow.., that paper work for his retirement must be on a very slow boat. I ask you these questions for myself and to help my fellow women to watch and to let them know these nuts are out there and to be care with affairs of the heart. M.., if you where here I would ask you to go for coffee so that we could talk in depth. Anyway., hope you have an answer for me. I really don’t think if I wonder into a recruiters office that they will take the time to talk with me. So.., that leaves you. Lol Deborah

      • I never loved him Margaret it was pity like a son to me but he kept saying he loved me I said I can be your mother he said yes baby but you’re lovely and I’m no scammer you make me mad saying that also that Dave Sorenson from California why he send it to me I will mail back with no return address n no writing I already have my stuff on my credit bureaus except for my drivers license cos the container people wanted it stupid me believed it I reported him to IC 3 FBI I hope they don’t come after me I got transaction papers just in case,I’m innocent I cried told him pls don’t use me I found a message on Facebook saying baby I miss you I won’t hurt you again and putting a face with hearts. God will protect me but never again I had soldiers requests young and cute I delete then and I bliclrd

        • Maria – your moving in the right direction. Just keep him blocked and do not correspond with him. What happens is the one is in a ring of criminals usually. Sometimes if he can’t get what he wants from you he will turn your file ( yes I said file, as they keep one on their targets) over to one of his co-conspirators and he may pretend to be the same one, or he may try using a whole new identity with different stolen picture and try his luck on you. That sometimes is why you start getting contacted by more. Or they pass on the file to another group and the circle starts all over again with you. This may go on for quite a while. Just block them. Also you may start to get a lot of emails from frauds saying they are able to compensate you for your loss. Ignore these letters as it is another way they try to scam you. I hope I have helped you.

          • The police took money and I’m afraid to get involved with them I just mail that gun metal back I have nothing else, husband don’t know. I will not accept no more soldiers nor men young strong handsome they’re are the devil’s spawn. God bless you all. I reported him to Facebook and IC 3 TOO.

    • It was more pity than love in my heart I believed he was hungry soldier suicide told me he was fake I told them he’s living in acworth,Georgia with an Angela Jenkins last year or earlier this year he send me a metal for rifle by a Dave Sorenson in California with $1,150.00 postal money order to send to him thru an Afeez Ola I nigeria he said keep it there what do I do mail it back he maybe a terrorist l need advice.

      • Maria – You need to turn the whole thing over to your local authorities and let it go. This whole thing does not sound good . Whatever it is you have, an envelope with a name, address, piece of metal, names, money, turn it in and tell them what has occurred. I believe the authorities can help you and give you answers. Your safe that way and please stop corresponding with this person. He sounds like real trouble.

  4. Just forgot to put Lescott Smith told me a container with money gold, silver, jewelery will be delivered to my address has never arrived is being 2 years and nothing and the agent in London needed my license to me sure it was me so dumb me sent it on yahoo, also send me a metal part for gun I haven’t send it back to sender why do I want it for to send to a terrorist or what do I do with it and two postal money orders were one for $1150 other for $1000 send money gram to him cos they owed his dad the money on his diary.

  5. I wonder if the red hair guy lescott Smith exists or why killed cos when I didn’t hear from him for two or three days I say baby when you don’t have money ur not sick and when you do you are, from malaria. If I DIDNT send money he starve or be real sick in hospital or jail for not paying hospital bill missed his plane or his friend used the other money he needed.I really want to know if the real Lescott Smith knows his picture being used cos he told me make me an account on Facebook they stole my identity am crying what a clever man.

    • MSG Robert McLaughlin says

      Totally fake.

    • Says he’s coming after me Lescott and have me arrested and put in jail like Lorraine that she lies cos he loved me yes a 62 year old now 64 but may look 1o years younger said he found a good God fearing women his commandant in Nigeria text me on my phone from this number 1972-729-9158 ,said he had a diary from his dad people owing him and send info to me to pick up money I didnt want to but says it was legali said don’t be scamming women and then have me send it to an afeez ola in Nigeria I say why Nigeria why not angela Jenkins where you are stranded got my ID address yahoo mail license cos stupid me believed me but it was put on alert my things am worried they cone after me his commandant wouldn’t answer NIR he text while other was texting till I learn to late he may use other woman saying am warrant officer 2 was in Kabul now um ur protector but if you fail me you be sorry like other women I jail for 3 years.

      • Maria – this is a typical letter a scammer would use. None of this trash is real.Hopefully you did not give out your address. Your best bet is to stop correspondence right now and delete and block this criminal on the internet and your phone as well. Reading this scumbags threats will only worry you and give you anxiety.

        • He has it through Facebook and yes I have depression and anxiety for years so am I in danger him coming or sending someone after me. Margaret.

        • I change my number he was texting me on the 10 of April that he wanted his money and has my pictures on yahoo and wants his money he kept on angry texting every 5 minutes where’s my money I an a us soldier innocent of any lies you here of me sent me money or I will jail you.

  7. Lisa – yes scammers use two first names together almost always .Scott Mark is a good example of what they use. I believe they do that so it is not possible to identify them. They do like the last name of “Williams” which is used a lot .

    • Victoria Stone says

Trying to find out if this guy is real or just a scammer. He says his name is Paul J. Mill US Army. He was in malaysia now in taiwan.

  8. To Everyone – have any of you noticed these people are all stating they are in the middle east !!! Oh for goodness sakes. He asks for money and you wonder if he is a scammer ?? Come on ladies, wake up. Take some time and read the info on this website. There is tons of info to help you. Don’t send money to these criminals. Most of it goes to fund terrorism….No one loves you instantly !!!!!!!

  9. BEWARE of a “soldier” by the name of Lescott Smith.. He claims he is a widower with a daughter who lives with his stepmom in NIGERIA.. states that his is stationed in Kabul.. he is a Nigerian scammer looking for money and Iphones for his “daughter”..I reported this to the commanding officer in the state of Washington, where he said he was stationed but got NO REPLY..Ladies just be careful..

    • Now there’s one in achworth ga. Lescott Smith who says he’s mother is Jamaican and his daughter Diana living in Texas but he’s stranded in ga.with woman name Angela Jenkins that he needs money to eat he’s red hair army cut lite blue eyes small mouth and nose is cute but nostrils are round was station in Kabul in 2013 of August voice sounds Nigerian his dad was Thomas Smith died.

      • To Maria – Sorry whether his nostrils are round or square he sounds like a scammer. You heard his voice. Sounds Nigerian, not a surprise. If he is in the Army most likely his CO is not in Nigeria. Ladies don’t send money to people on the internet. These funds go to sprucing up their lifestyle, booze, niteclubs, ladies, & clothes, ( and don’t you work hard for your money ?) or to fund terrorism.

        • Says he was in Kabul but I send $300 to get medical papers to get out n not go to Syria known him since 7/2012-4-10-2015 got real mad cos he wanted his money picked up sent by several women but DIDNT police took it and he threatened me I be jailed by police or soldiers soon knows where I live and that it was his money that I will go to hell and God punish me for it.first it was mike jide then last afeez ola didnt believe mg put on hold then gave back so almost got shot and robbed so police Kept it

          • Maria – you have no power over what happens to a person in the military. No requests are made to civilians for anything. The Military does not work that way. You sent money to a scammer. You have no idea of some of the stories I have been witness to over the last 4 years. This person is a liar, full of bs, and so get offline with him.

        • Margaret he did Facebook messenger and send me faces with hearts and says he’s sorry baby and misses me to answer him I change my number so then I thought what to do so I block him names Lescott Smith can he really put me in jail is why I worry but you don’t answer my post or McLaughlin help me I’m worried and nervous.

    • He told me you got msd cos he told you he live me and lied he says he’s widower mom and daughter here in Texas mom Jamaican dad died was white Lescott said he protect me from scammers since he was warrant officer 2 in Kabul till I send money to bring him hone gave me details on flight n stranded in Georgia since September 2013. Lost his ID they wear tags I knew got sick stop texting me then say I love u and Mudd u baby something in me said why then u take long to text now I found out why years after I help with over $2000 dollars cos I felt sorry but that u and other women took his money and got locked up Lorraine.

  10. To Everyone – About a year ago I came across a scammer going by the name of Jeff Turner. His email was MeetJeffTurner on yahoo. I just found him again going by Paul Lee Williams email of paullee_williams on yahoo. He is using same picture of a soldier. He is on BlackPlanet.com and Meetup2 dating sites and probably others as well. He has been proven a scammer so avoid those names.

    • Just an update—–yes indeed, Paul Lee Williams has the audacity to ask for $100……lol…..oh they simply cannot fight the urge. His reason was so absurd I could not even figure out what he was saying.

  11. i have been chatting with this guy who says he is in turkey he’s a agent and it’s confidential he’s with the U.S. Military is this true do we have confidential agents in turkey I really appreciate this site thank you so much

  12. Tracy Norton says

Is there anywhere I can find out if a captain John Williams is real he has told me he is currently serving in Afghanistan but there is times I believe him and sometimes I don’t

    • Look at the pictures on the Dating military scam & Im sure you will see him. May have a facebook account under Cjonathan Willam Carson. Good Luck

    • To Tracy Norton – I googled Captain John Williams in my browser and I received info on a Captain John Williams who was in the Military and died in 1812. Your person could have stolen this info as scammers do. You can post a picture on http://www.tineye.com if he has given you one and see if it has been used before. You can ask him for his MOS which is a US Military code used to identify their particular job in the Military. Air Force uses the term AFSC. Ask for his .mil email ID. ( dot Mil ). These are not secret and he can give them to you. If he refuses then he is not real.

  13. how do find out who a pic is of a person who is in the service if anyone is chatting with bravehall147@yahoo.com he is asking for money

  14. I met this guy on tango who said he was in the Sudan do we have soliders there and how can I find out if he is who he say he is?

  15. I met Sgt Clement Lopez who states in was with NATO training the Afghan soldiers how to defend them selves from terrorists. He also teaches survival training to them also. He did say his parents did in a vehicle accident when he was younger and was brought up by his elderly aunt. Who passes away last year. He told me he was allowed to come home home to bury her. This is his 3rd tour in the Middle East. He has been in the Army for 23

    • To Debbi – whoa girl this one is a big time SCAMMER !!! Just go to the top of your screen, and into your browser type Sgt.Clement Lopez !!! This scammer uses about 15 different names. The picture is stolen. Click on the info that comes up in the browser . You will have a lot of interesting reading to do. Not sure which Country he is in, as he has used Ghana, and Nigeria I believe. Just get away from this one.

  16. I met this guy called max cole on plenty of fish “POF” a dating site. He said he was a sergeant in the us army and I gave him about £9000 to help him but obviously he was a scammer please girls b careful don’t let urself b fooled just the way I was I think I was desperately looking for love and the first attention I got I just got carried away but be safe he is a bastard.

  17. Hi I meet this guy on mingle 2 he says he’s sargeant George on a peacekeeping mission in Sudan dufar he ask me to email his commander in the army for him a leave home and he would pay for it are their peace keeping missions in Sudan and do military have to pay for leave?

    • Margaret Rodgers says

To Brenda – NO they do not pay for a leave. They earn time on the books for the leaves much the same as you earn time off on your job. When they have the time earned they just submit a request to their Commanding Officer I believe for approval. This one is trying to scam you Brenda.

    • ALso dealt with this guy- major scammer he is and acts so iangry when confronted- ignore him.

    • MSG Robert McLaughlin says

He’s fake. We do not pay for leave.

      • listen you can tell us until your Blue in the face ,some of us ( like myself ) are new to this and I didnt know who he was and I’m smart so yeah I friended him like we all did, ten of thousands of us and your saying hes fake .Educate us put it in all the newspapers talk about on-line..and make feel like it our fault for answer a call. women are way different when It come us soldiers so dont run us up flag pole cuz we resposed to fake person cuz we’re not awear of this scam

  18. Pavlina Yordanova says

    Hello!
I apologize in advance for the quality of my english, but I am from Bulgaria. I come into contact with a man pretending to be General Alexander Newman. I can’t send a picture because h? use only Skype. For the same reason I can’t follow his IP address. I don’t have profiles on dating sites and at the beginning I decided that all this is a joke. For me he is a deceiver because he is on a mission, he has son who is studying Ghana and needs help. When I told him that he is cheater, he was so offended. Moreover, he was offended that I don’t want to help his son. He did not give up, today I told him that I would check his identity, but he is still online on my Skype and wait my help. Is it possible I be wrong and he is real or he is so sure that I can’t find out that he’s lying to me? I am the perfect victim, I don’t speak English well and didn’t even know if this person exists, but he is so sure that already started to doubt myself. I know I’m not an American, but I would be grateful if you answer me.

    • Margaret Rodgers says

To Pavlina – you are right about his knowing you would have a hard time tracing him. One of my rules is this. Anytime a man asks a woman for money over the internet the chances are huge that he is a scammer. I never give money to anyone I have never met physically .Actually I don’t give people money. From what you have written, (and they use this my child needs help routinely) I would say it is a scammer. Don’t let him make you feel guilty as that also is a ploy they use always.

      • Pavlina Yordanova says

Thank you for the reply, Margaret! This rogue has Netlog profile. From there I have photo of the man whose picture he used. I have no profile on dating sites and all this accidental correspondence was strange for me. Furthermore, I think the generals of any country are too busy to write with random women on the internet. I don’t believe in love at “first shot”, but I see that many women are victims of fraud. Would you tell me where I should send photo which this rogue used? This will help other potential victims. When I looked on the internet for this man, I saw that he had a profile on Netlog. The only person on the internet who meets these data is: “Alexander Newman (October 5, 1804 – September 8, 1849) was a nineteenth-century politician from Virginia”

        • To Pavlina – I was on Netlog several years ago and I found nothing but scammers on there. The first scammer who ever contacted me used the name of Walter Bruston. He contacted me on my Facebook account asking to be friends and had posted a picture of a soldier. When I became suspicious of him I googled this name he gave and found this man had died in the 1800’s. When I told him I found this info on the internet his response was, “you mean I am dead ?” They play games like this with you. They will stay with you as long as you allow them, or some of them will just move on to another victim. You just have to delete them and block them. I turned his pictures into Scamwarners.com. I believe you also can on Romancescam.com too. You are right about the Generals -they indeed are too busy to be looking for romance. I hardly think that is their priority.

    • MSG Robert McLaughlin says

He’s not real. Amerian Generals do not have kids in Ghana among many other things.

      • Pavlina Yordanova says

I’m sure of it! At first I thought that all this is a joke. Then he asked me to pay the school fees of his son who is studying in Ghana with Western Union money transfer, the name of Ndubuisi Roland, ha-ha. I realized that this is no joke, this is attempt at deception! I would never sent my son to study in Ghana …. Thank you for your response too!

  19. I have met a young lady on line that she is in Benin on a training mission with the U. S. Army. Just got deployed there in January. She has sent me pics of her son that is supposedly in the U.S.A. we have been writing about 2 months now. Do we have troops over there?

    • MSG Robert McLaughlin says

RUN AWAY! Sure smells of fraud. Ask for a picture of them with the computer screen showing your email or picture. Upload pics she sends you to tineye.com to authenricate. ask for friends at home. Today everyone has Facebook, check the age of the account and activity. I’d a January deployment announced? Ask for info like MOS, DOR, and so on. Still I doubt very much it is real.

    • To Ronald – I am pretty sure we have not sent troops to Benin for any reason. I don’t think we send them there for training You can check with MSG Robert McLaughlin on this site. He is very helpful. I feel reasonably sure you have a scammer.

  20. I meet this guy on mingle 2 said he’s deployed to syria lost his wife and kid and told me he loved me within few chats are the U.S. military in Syria ? His email is roberttravis729@yahoo. Com please let me no he’s not ask for money yet but I don’t no if he’s a scammer thank you

    • I would like to add he said he’s on a peacekeeping mission in Syria not sure if he’s real thank you

      • I have a gentlemen that said that to me from there and he was a scammer. Be careful.

      • Margaret Rodgers says

To Brenda – last time I heard we have not sent troops into Syria. Terrorists are all over Syria big time so I would avoid this person.

    • I would highly doubt it .Ask him to talk to you on phone ..hear his voice ..picture of his kids and wife along with him .
First thing he will honey coat you with all compliments ..you may receive a flower or gift too .
Then he is probably going to ask you money sooner that way you will know he is a scam.

    • To Brenda – I watch our news pretty closely, monitoring it everyday. To my knowledge we do not have American troops on the ground , yet, in Syria. Syrian troops in deep battle with terrorist’s at this time.

    • Im sure he is on Facebook as Scott Mark

  21. In Russian it is not clear. I am a widow, I wrote lawson pat , attach photo Major General Tim Mchail. This I found out later conversation immediately stopped. Learn all found on the Internet about the general. And since I have a letter attached it to his face, I’d like to meet him. Or not worth it? Russia so far from America.
    Goodbye.

    • To Evgenia – Usually, but not always, when the scammer thinks your on to him, he will stop the conversation. Sometimes they will contact you again only using a different name and scenario. Anytime your intuition steps in, your feeling is most likely right. I know the Military will not disclose info on the troops for security and privacy reasons You probably would be wasting your time and wind up disheartened and disappointed.

Ok Gay now your learning the in’s & out’s of their game. I ALWAYS assume they are a scammer, before ever giving them credit for being a honest person. He would have to prove it to me. Chances are 99 percent nil they are not honest. I only met one soldier out of over 300 the past 4 years that was real. Not a scammer but was a real exhibitionist pervert !! I no longer look for the love of my life online. First, it is too dangerous. I have concluded that real men arn’t looking for it online either.

Actually plenty of folks do look for love online. I did. The best part about connecting online is that you remove the physical attraction (i.e. beer goggles), you remove the worry that you are dressed okay or your hair looks okay, you remove the concern about did I take her to a good restaurant, does she like the food, and all that. You end up with only one thing with which to connect — the human mind.

I have met some fantastic people online I may not have even given the time of day to in person. Age, race, religion, height, you name it, it is all removed from the equation. Sure you want to know that about the other person, as they do about you (and in time you better meet lest your dreamy thoughts exceed anyone’s capabilities). But yes, meeting online happens, and for the good. And if the person is boring online, then their persona is non-existent, and you have saved yourself lot of hassle, and still retain your relative anonimity.

Hi everyone! I have been away from the site but wanted to check in and say hi. I still have folks asking me about military dating, and as usual the conmen have no remorse and are as brazen as ever. They are fishing for the big money and have all the time in the world.

One little hint for those of you who may talk to a person you met again… I used to write down names of people I talk with online and also things like birthdates or kid’s names or stuff that I would like to remember. Or what city you are in. Saves me looking dumb. Go ahead and do that and see if the stories you get match over time. It’s an investment to have a long running story, they scammers will find easier bait.

Also when they send you a picture upload it to http://www.tineye.com to see if it is real or did they steal it off of the Internet.

      Good luck out there!

      • Hello Robert – You’ve been missed. This site has been so fortunate to have you here looking out for us. I have always taken every little bit of advice you’ve shared including all you just mentioned. You helped me through the last 4 years tremendously. I was never lucky dating on the internet as you were. Out of 300 men that contacted me, only found one that was real, and he was a real pervert. Ha ! Of course that is not to say everyone will have the same experience I had.Thank you for all your advice and support. You are gold.

Mel – actually it doesn’t matter whether Daniel, Danny, or Horatio…..they use fake names, and change it with each person they chat with most of the time. The same person can be chatting with me using one name, and chatting with you using some other name.

To Lori – I posted to you on Dec.16, 2014 that to my knowledge we had no troops in Somalia. I Learned today we have or had some around 200 units in Somalia but not sure if they are still there. Operation was called “Operations Restore Hope & United Shield. Can’t say the person you chatted with was one of them or not. This was on my News Feed today in Facebook. My hunch is still you have a scammer but I needed to let you know this info. Some of the scammers really keep up on where troops are.

To Bekka – there is a bright side to your story believe it or not. First most of us on this website at one time or another have felt what your feeling, including myself. Second, you found out the truth. Third, your now much wiser. I know it hurts. One reason I study them, to try and help others with what I have learned from my own experiences. It took me six months to remove the picture of a soldier that a scammer had sent me he was pretending to be from my desk. This was almost 4 years ago and it still hurts. So I know what your going through. Your best to realize your not alone and I bet it won’t happen to you again.
