Internet Dating Scam: Fake Soldiers

I just came across a post on “A Soldier’s Perspective” discussing a rather disgusting and disturbing trend that has guys posing as soldiers on Internet dating sites. Here’s the quote from CJ’s:

The latest trend involves trolling internet dating sites and convincing women that they are honorable Soldiers who have fallen in love and would do anything to communicate with the object of their affection. But, because they are deployed to Afghanistan or Iraq, they need you to sign up for an expensive telecommunications service like “Military TELEX” in order to make that happen. They profess unending love as their motivator and, unfortunately, many women have fallen for it.

The BIG red flag here is that the guy is asking for money. NEVER fall for that con.

If you come across anyone on a dating site who is asking you for money, regardless of the reason; block them immediately from further contact and then report them to the internet dating service.

You can also check out who is really behind their email address…

AND / or their telephone number…

To read specific details about about one incident, read CJ’s post “The New Military Dating Scam”.

Everyone : Forgot to mention, Kelly Miller and Thomas Miller both posing as soldiers.Posting two different pictures. Pictures are stolen of course. Check out in google, RomanceScam.com. Kelly Miller’s picture is on there. So is Walter Bruston’s picture, my original scammer. Walter’s Real name is Drawoh Mateo. Finding that one was a “biggie” for me. Searched for his real identity for over two years.

For Everyone : These are contacts within the past month:
timmyalex57 . Shows picture of a white male on Yahoo. Confessed real name is Donslypara. User name on facebook is donslypara@yahoo.com.Put that in your Facebook browser. He has a pink shirt on.
Contacted by Mark Johnson on Facebook. Has picture of white older man. Uses really bad english grammer Puts words together in a sentence that do not make any sense at all.. I traced his email sent to me and it had the same ip number as Kelly Miller had. During our chatting, he said he went to India to oversee construction of a building there. Said he arrived in Bangladesh, Indiana. I told him to send me a copy of his passport. I have never heard from him again.
Soon after Mark Johnson disappeared someone by the the name of Thomas Miller contacted me on Facebook. Thomas Miller sent me the same pictures Kelly Miller sent me !!! They really appear to be stupid sometimes or they think you are.
I hope you can see how hard this one person is trying to get into my Facebook account. He wants names of my family and friends real bad.

To Jade Whorton – Good work, you are correct, he was or is a scammer. He was working up to hitting you but you stopped him at every opportunity. What you wrote is typical of the Nigerian, Ghana, and that general area of scammers. However, there are scammers located all over the whole world. There is even a syndicate of them.. He most likely wanted your Tagged account info in order to obtain personal info on you .Address, phone number and such. If you begin to have any odd feeling about a person, that is your natural instincts kicking in. Listen to your own warning signals.

  4. Margaret Rodgers says

To Mary – The Military takes care of all medical needs . They do not need to ask civilians for help. They always have access to their money also. We can ask MSG Robert McLaughlin regarding troops in Kuwait but I have doubts about troops being there. You can ask this person for a copy of his CAC card and for his .Mil email address. You probably won’t get either. Personally, I think he is a scammer.

  5. Margaret Rodgers says

To Wynette – There seems to be an influx on Facebook of the Military men contacting FB users.( actually not real military men) I have had about six in the last two weeks. I am in the process of screening them at the moment – but I found so far only one is a scammer and I highly suspect the rest are also I will post here my findings. I would like to say do not accept them as friends on your facebook page, as they want access to your family and friends on there to find new victims. Divert them to another email you use if you want to check them out. I send them to my yahoo email, they “love it”..It doesn’t usually take long to figure them out once you start reading how they write and talk….knowledge of English grammar is really really bad on most.

  6. Margaret Rodgers says

To Ninafaye; Correction in previous posting.

faithandlove82@rocketmail.com is email of someone calling himself Abraham
    e daviau is r daviau

To Melissa – As I understand it, our US troops are no longer in Iraq. Ask him for a copy of his CAC card and .Mil email address.
You may want to double check this info with MSG Robert McLaughlin.

I have had a Man claiming to be Army, out of Nigeria….he has not asked for money but continues to profess his love to me telling ne he wants to marry me, and unfortunately he has used 9/11 to get my attention, told me his wife died during the 9/11 attacks. He sent me a picture of his Geneva Convention ID and it is incorrect….I googled what one should look like. Everyone please be alert and careful of :santianton50….this is his yahoo id. He yet to ask me for money, on the fake id it has his name listed as Antonsanti Dennis. I wish I could post the pictures that this scammer is using. I feel very bad for this man that is being abused by this scammer. And yes I made the mistake of calling him. I have an Army friend that was discharged with a purple heart award and he sat beside me and had me ask approiate questions in regards to the military and thats when I realized this man is a scammer. Please be safe and aware. He also asked me about my bank account and taxes, I did not give him any of that information I told him it was none of his business. He also asked me for my “Tagged” account information so he himself could delete my account….again I did not give him that inforamtion. SO please be careful out there.

    Jade A, Whorton

TO Ninafaye: I have been keeping track of all the scammers that have contacted me for the last two years and 2 months. Once I am confident that they are indeed a scammer and by that I mean the fact they ask me for money or for something tangible, or ask me to get involved in some scheme that involves money, and together with all of the rest of the hogwash they use, I usually post their email name here that they used. I have well into 200 at least. I will try and list and re-post some at a time here. The hard thing about this is that most often they use only one name on one person and will use an entirely different name on someone else.In other words he may contact me using Walter but may contact you using James and etc. They also can contact you using lets say Walter and then he can contact you again using Larry, or James, or whatever he chooses. You can be chatting with the same person but thinking you are chatting with six different people. I am reasonable sure my original scammer pulled this on me.I chatted with Walter for two years. All the while I studied and researched scammers. You won’t believe this world and what I discovered.

  18. Is there anyway another list of scammers can be listed for some of these ladies who are getting ficticious names. I know one was sent out last year and someone was trying to up date it. So, Please send out another list so we can see what is going on

    Thank you,
    Nina Bloodworth

  19. MSG Robert Mclaughlin says

LT Tom Reagan is a fake! I checked the white pages and there is ONE Tom Reagan but a very different rank.

The Army does not use LT as a rank abbreviation.

Militarymailbox.us is registered to Ralph Clemmons in Roswell GA. He made it on April 4, 2007. His email is ralphcle@bellsouth.net.

This is not military at all! It ends in US not MIL! Fake!

  20. What a pattern the scammers seem to have. They 1. Have someone close to them that has died. 2. Are about to retire in several months and 3. Want to start their own business… All of these things should be red flags. Especially when they ask for money!!! I did actually talk to my “scammer” not as the “Dave Allison” that I was crazy about but as the “scammer”. He actually replied to a few of my questions. But his final response to my questions, which he was unable to answer, was “I took nothing from you.” That was the last e-mail. Wake up gals… Be very careful. I, too, had been single 3 years and was so excited about my “new marine”. It is heartbreaking and so hard to tell yourself…IT IS NOT REAL! Just ask questions…..many questions…

  21. Lt. Tom Reagan says

the email unitedstatesarmydepartment@militarymailbox.us is an utility email. It exists and besides, like many other kinds of emails in the cyber world,it is authentic. It was created for soldiers to personalize their emails. However, there are scammers out there that creates their own websites for fraudulent reasons, that doesn’t mean that real soldiers do not exist. This particular email is genuine, authentic and exists.

  22. Hello everyone,
Im back. Thank you for the response on my post. I did ask Larry what was his rank and he said Technical Sargeant, which does not exist for the Army anymore. I also asked him where was he stationed and what city he said Base 3 in Ohio, tried to find such a name and couldn’t find one\but he said he was in Afghan I waited for him to call me the next day since I gave him my number and he didn’t call or IM. The day after that I had 3 missed calles but the phone number was really long and I checked the area code and it was from Nigeria. So then he left me a IM saying he was calling but did not answer and another thing his grammar is not great also. I did not responed on the IM and since he had my number he text me stating again how much he misses me and love me. I just want to say one thing about all this experience, I found myself very happy in the beginning to get so much attention since I have been single for 4 years, but as the days went buy and the answers did not match up to the questions I asked and some questions being ignored with I love you so much, I noticed that I was constantly waiting on him and losing focus on my current life, and I started to get frustrated because I knew I was not getting a correct answer. Best advice ask the questions and if he gets upset or avoids them or they are not correct.. do yourself a favor don’t play the game it is not real love just a wicked imagination that will cause harm in the long run.

  23. Margaret Rodgers says

TO Donna Ford: This Desmond guy is a scammer. You do have all the right questions, except he will not have the right answers ! They seem to be using the soldier from Afghanistan scam hot and heavy right now. Maybe because they know most will be leaving within the next year hopefully. I doubt he has 2 milion in the States, because first he is most likely African. The military men and women do not have problems with accessing their funds. They also have USAA, a banking firm, which is available also to assist them in many ways. He is lying and a scammer. Also it is very dangerous to accept any kind of funds, cash or check, from anyone outside the country that you do not know. Many are terroist envolved and you could get into some serious legal trouble. I would tread very carefully.

  24. Margaret Rodgers says

TO Dlbm: Interesting they always want to marry when getting ready to retire !!! This is the same scam originally pulled on me except I did not know about this site and got took for $3000. The Military DOES NOT CHARGE FOR RETIREMENT. There is no way a civilian would pay for any of this, that is absurd !! They put in 20 years and then it is processed by the Military and no one else. There is no charge for leave either. The email mine used was walter_bruston@rocketmail.com. Could be same one just using different name. This is definitely a scammer. Delete and block.

  25. does this email adress exists ?

    unitedstatesarmydepartment@militarymailbox.us
