I just came across a post on “A Soldier’s Perspective” discussing a rather disgusting and disturbing trend that has guys posing as soldiers on Internet dating sites. Here’s the quote from CJ’s:
The latest trend involves trolling internet dating sites and convincing women that they are honorable Soldiers who have fallen in love and would do anything to communicate with the object of their affection. But, because they are deployed to Afghanistan or Iraq, they need you to sign up for an expensive telecommunications service like “Military TELEX” in order to make that happen. They profess unending love as their motivator and, unfortunately, many women have fallen for it.
The BIG red flag here is that the guy is asking for money. NEVER fall for that con.
If you come across anyone on a dating site who is asking you for money, regardless of the reason; block them immediately from further contact and then report them to the internet dating service.
You can also check out who is really behind their email address…
AND / or their telephone number…
To read specific details about about one incident, read CJ’s post “The New Military Dating Scam”.

TO BARBARA – There has been another scammer posted on here that uses the last name of Ramos. Possibly the same one. What a creep – he tried to get everything possible from you . It made me so angry to read what he tried to do to you. So glad you did not fall for it.
Another soldier scam. User name Daveramosxo switched to Yahoo messenger to chat. Said he was a widowed and has a 11 yr old son staying with a friend in Ghana that works at the U.N. Told story of losing parents and wife 6 yrs ago. Is in military in Iraq. First request was for gifts, second request for money for his friend to get school supplies for the son. When questioned he stated the military froze his bank account and he had no access to it. He requested a prepaid cell phone and Iphone 4s to be exact. Has refused requests for a full facial picture or video conversation, must hand it to him he doesnt give up is now requesting 3000 to help pay for 12000 worth of full body armor that supposedly the military doesnt pay for,…right. Havent heard back yet since this request was denied as well, needs this because he is being sent into the desert and might not come back. Strategy is an attempt to pull your heart strings
TO TONY – IF SPENCER BRUCE IS ASKING FOR MONEY, LEAVE, AND OTHER ITEMS, HE IS SCAMMING. PERHAPS HE THNKS HE CAN JUST DO IT. THIS WOULD ACCOUNT FOR THE REASON HE HAS OTHER NAMES ALSO. NOT ALL SCAMMERS ARE FROM AFRICA NATIONS.
TO TERRI – I HAD SOMEONE CHATTING WITH ME WITH THE NAME JHON BUT HE DID NOT CLAIM TO BE A SGT. I HAD SEVERAL SCAMMERS I WAS WORKING ON AND I DELETED HIS EMAIL ID.
To Tony, how do you know if he is a real soldier? Since my first post he sent me other emails, one contained a series of questions he wanted to know about me. I started googling the questions and found the emails word for word on a website http://www.scamwarners.com, I questioned him and he told me he copied those questions because his education was poor. I have since reported him to yahoo and Meetme as a scammer stating what I have found. So upset that people are taking advantage of our brave men and women serving our county and fighting for our freedom.
Spencer Bruce is real? Funny, I am logged on right now to he army white pages and he is not listed in any service. There are a few Bruce Spencers though. None have Chris as a middle name. And here is no Chris Bruce either. As for you Tony, with what authority do you speak to know this invisible soldier?
John Mason is a common name but there is no Jhon, Terri. Did he write from a .mil email address? If not he is a fake.
Does. Anyone. Know. Of. A. Sgt. Cohen. Jhon Mason. .?? He. Just. Emailed. Me. …
TO kat88 Spencer Bruce is a real soldier, and he has other names Chris, but i dont know why he wanted money from you..to buy a phone or something…their leave is free….i just dont know why people do this to their fellow man..
TO CHRIS SLATER – Yes they use the same story frame – love and money. They are all Sgt.’s in the Army and all say they are in Afghanistan . Ask them for their .Mil email address. Bet you won’t get one.
To KAT88 – Most of your questions can be brought up to MSG Robert McLaughlin on this site. I do know they have access to phones and computers. Soldiers can process a leave I believe with their Commanding Officer and I believe they must have “time” on the “books”and there is no charge for that. Many times scammers will slide along with you, feeling you out. It’s a waiting game for them. They wait until they feel the moment is right, wanting to get you hooked emotionally. They all steal pictures and use fake names, using most often two first names together such as yours, “Spencer Bruce”. There can be one person using many different pictures and fake names and contact you using all of them. I do feel pretty confident in saying you have a scammer. The best thing to do is delete and block. You won’t lose your heart or money.
please say me is kent donald a scamme`?
sorry my english is no good
I have been corresponding with a soldier, everything sounded legitimate but I was reading all of this information and now I doubting myself. Where can I find the answers to the following questions:
Would an Army base in Afghanastan not allow care packages to come in because of escalated violence? Can soldiers have their own phones? Would a soldier need a phone of their own to process their leave papers? Is there anyway to verify if this soldier exists? I have tried to google him but can’t find anything. I have sent no money and I told him I would not send him a phone….he did doubt my trust but he continues to write to me and has not asked or even brought this request up again. If anyone would know of a scam involving pictures and the name of Sgt Spencer Bruce from Houston TX, stationed in Afghanistan please let me know.
same story , same scan…love and money.Anyone else had dealings with Eric ‘TOM’ Spradlin or Dennis Gilbert, apparently both US ARMY SGTS in Afghanistan.
same story , same scan…love and money.Anyone else had dealings with Eric ‘TOM’ Spradlin or Dennis Gilbert
There is also Larry haggard and Bill or William haggard that are scammers.
TO ROBERT – AN EXCELLENT POINT. THAT IS SOMETHING I HAD NOT THOUGHT ABOUT . THANK YOU FOR BRINGING IT TO ALL OUR ATTENTION. I AM SO GRATEFUL YOUR ON THIS SITE.
I used Match.com ages ago but never touted my military background. It was one of many things about me. Worry when anyone concentrates on only one feature of themselves.
TO All – I also would like to add that any one who says they love you and want to spend the rest of their life with you BEFORE EVER MEETING YOU IN PERSON – ISN’T ALL THERE !!!!!
TO EVERYONE – All the men who contacted me from Badoo dating site turned out to be scammers. This site is loaded with them; so is Netlog, and so is Shytle. Whether they claimed to be soldiers or from other walks of life, none turned out to be real honest men. I gave up a long time ago finding anyone on a a dating site. My last two dates were with men I knew from school. I at least knew they were real.
Emannuel..Two wrongs dont make it right and many innocent people are victim to scams not only in the U.S all over the world..An eye for an eye is not always good..if it was there would be none of us left in the world..
thankyou all for your comments i will be speaking to my sister and showing her once again thanks nikki
TO LIGHT – I checked the facebook profiles on both Emma and Emmanuel Haggard and yes if you check them out you can see they are fake. I checked out the friends they had also and their profiles are fake also. What an entangled mess. I believe the name Haggard was reported on this site quite a while back as the name was familiar to me. Thanks for posting your information. I have posted so many times on here, as have others , how to avoid being trapped by these scumbags.. I can only say do your homework before giving away your heart and your money. If the truth be known, they probably have more money than any of us do.
In August I was on badoo.com the dating site and then someone signed up on there too, his name on there was Scott and he told me about himself….then he asked me for my yahoo email and then he added me on there and said lets get off of here so we can talk more privately please baby…and I told him okay lets do talk on yahoo messenger then so we did that and then he started to tell me that he loved me and wanted to spend the rest of his life with me and wanted to move down here to Houston and buy a house and live happily ever after with me.

Emmanuel. I am not willing to party for sins of the past. Especially since none of my ancestors had anything to do with slavery. If you feel bad go donate money. Did you know most slaves were sold by other tribes? So the horrors in Africa today are experienced by those who sold slaves. Now that’s karma.
