I just came across a post on “A Soldier’s Perspective” discussing a rather disgusting and disturbing trend that has guys posing as soldiers on Internet dating sites. Here’s the quote from CJ’s:
The latest trend involves trolling internet dating sites and convincing women that they are honorable Soldiers who have fallen in love and would do anything to communicate with the object of their affection. But, because they are deployed to Afghanistan or Iraq, they need you to sign up for an expensive telecommunications service like “Military TELEX” in order to make that happen. They profess unending love as their motivator and, unfortunately, many women have fallen for it.
The BIG red flag here is that the guy is asking for money. NEVER fall for that con.
If you come across anyone on a dating site who is asking you for money, regardless of the reason; block them immediately from further contact and then report them to the internet dating service.
You can also check out who is really behind their email address…
AND / or their telephone number…

I have been contacted a few times by scammers on friends reunited dating- it always follows the same format- usually american or foreign, widowed or divorced with one child, no other family around, working abroad, beware of RICHARD MARK and JOHN STEVEN- nigerian scammers. I have notived today on Friends Reunited that RICHARD MARK has reregistered with the same picture (probably fake) as Growoldwithme- do not talk to this man. They ask for money so that they can get home to meet you- what a joke- anyone asking for money is a SCAMMER

HI all out there i had someone who called himself sgtbeaverfox met him on dating.com chatted for quite a while he said he was a sgt in the us army after about a month he wanted me to send him 500 dollars to authorise military to use phone said i would check went on to the website and found this one well what can i saydidnt fall for it but might of if i hadnt found this site thankyyou he did the same things as you all are explaining and said he was in afganistan needless to say havnt herd from him since i sent a email knowing what he was up to i think i checked his ip right and from sunnvale c/a hope no one else has had him cant report him to dating web came off quite soon it is very easy to fall for these people i nearly did please be carefull

After reading your comments I am very sure “Sergeant Ivan Miller” is a fake. I have been chatting online to him for almost 6 weeks – had hoped he was genuine but in the past week he has also asked me for $15,000. He said he was sending money (1.2 million!!) to me here in Australia in a bag locked by combination that only he and I would know, and I need to have the money ready to give the “diplomat” that is supposedly bringing it. DON’T give in to these mongrels who are preying on genuine women on dating sites – I certainly am not giving him one single cent!!!!

Has anyone else had Richard Hannett, want you to be his next of kin for his Gold Mine in West Africa. He also asked for me to send him a laptop. I began to think he was a scammer when he had to ask me on too many occasions where I was from. I did not lose anything, which I am grateful for that. Ladies all I can say is that I began to investigate him immediately..When I couldn’t find anything on him, it became uncomfortable. I played along for as long as I could. I investigated for the IP address, his pictures, and his location in Ghana, Africa..this is how I came upon this site. I have also contacted the real man, in the pictures sent to me, and he has went to the proper athorities, I am just waiting for him to contact me back with the information to contact them myself. Good luck ladies…I was approached on Lavalife..so be careful. I will agree with Pauline I was glad to find out the nice looking man that was in the pictures was not the one that tried to scam me, he is a very nice man that has basically had his identity stolen. I nearly fell for the same thing…I became a member on Christiancafe.com. An Army guy who is meant to be stationed in Afgahnistan started to write to me. I became quite suspicious when he started to sound like English was not his first language. We began to chat via yahoo messenger. He sent me some pics with a solider by the name of Lanois on his shirt. He said his name was Lieutenant Colonel Benjamin Lanois…I thought he was lying so did some research and came across this site. He wanted me to invest in ts2equipment@techie.com. Anyway is is a scam and lie! These con-artists are STEALING our men’s identifications and preying on VULNERABLE women…I just feel for the man who is in the photos and how he is serving our country and morale less degenerates steal their identity and then PRETEND to be Christian…These scammers are sick sick sick in the head!!!

I am speaking to a man right now with the last name Hannett that has sent me 3 photos and would like to know if it is the same one. I have just seen another ladies photo’s of James Ruddock and they are the same person as the photo’s that I have but he is a lot younger in hers. The pictures of him with his 2 daughters are also the same person and they must be his girls as they look so much like him. To sharon – Have a look at a site called http://www.onlinedatingbook.co.uk there is another lady on there who also has been wooed by James Ruddock, he didn’t get anything out of her either. Thanks to these sites it seems he’s having a run of bad luck – keep it up ladies.
I came across a so call SSgt David Atkin in Iraq, he was asking for money for a leave and because of all the info on here IP address it was Sunnyvale CA as well, the only thing he gave me his AKO number, somebody knows how to check that out…if he is a real soldier I want to report him because since I refuse to send money he didn’t write back…but I think he is waiting for me to change my mind…I wish on this site that we would be able to post the pic of those scammers….

Do not fall for this, it is exactly the same story line given to me for Sgt George Hannett (who has been back in the USA for the past 3 years – not in Iraq as I was lead to believe). DO NOT SEND ANY MONEY, I fell for it and lost out. The amounts will keep getting bigger until they are sure that they have all your money. It is a syndicate employing people to make contact with females via dating sites, to play on their emotions and to get as much money out of them as possible.
Check the IP address and you will find that the very first email you received originated in Ghana.

to dawn this is a scam for sure dont send any money, its strange how all these so called packages and problems are always in ghana anyhow he has enough money on his army pay to pay for these things, they are well paid and have very little to spend money on when they are in iraq .KEEP YOUR MONEY IN YOUR POCKET OK

I have received emails from sfc_miller6162 at yahoo.com saying that he is a sergeant in the us army and was sending me a package. It was stopped at Ghana and was asking for $15000 and told him that I didnt have that sort of money. He has been hassling me ever since saying that he had important documentation papers etc in the package. How can I find out if he is for real or not?
I have been taking to James Rellinger when I thought I better do some investigation on him and I found this site and then realize he is on every site..but I didn’t see him on aol. He wanted me to send money for the ts2 phone but I’m not that stupid to do that for anyone online. I told him that I was checking on some things about him…if he doesn’t like it …too bad….enough is enough of people taking advantage of the internet to get money or anything else.
