I just came across a post on “A Soldier’s Perspective” discussing a rather disgusting and disturbing trend that has guys posing as soldiers on Internet dating sites. Here’s the quote from CJ’s:
The latest trend involves trolling internet dating sites and convincing women that they are honorable Soldiers who have fallen in love and would do anything to communicate with the object of their affection. But, because they are deployed to Afghanistan or Iraq, they need you to sign up for an expensive telecommunications service like “Military TELEX” in order to make that happen. They profess unending love as their motivator and, unfortunately, many women have fallen for it.
The BIG red flag here is that the guy is asking for money. NEVER fall for that con.
If you come across anyone on a dating site who is asking you for money, regardless of the reason; block them immediately from further contact and then report them to the internet dating service.
You can also check out who is really behind their email address…
AND / or their telephone number…
To read specific details about about one incident, read CJ’s post “The New Military Dating Scam”.

I am writing back to you with reference to my earlier posting dated the 26th sept regarding Major Ned Sutton, he insists that he is REAL and I asked him for his .mil address which he duly told me, then when on to inform me that he was not allowed to email me from it (as it was classified) when I asked him and I was not allowed to email him either because he did not want to get into any problems with the army over it! This was about two weeks ago and I have not responded, just deleted and have not heard anything since.
He has also asked me for money again via email as he told me that he has been classified ON LEAVE and has to fend for his self regarding food etc….also he has informed me that he very sick with a stomach ulcer and malaria and doesn’t want to die!!! (even though when I asked him how he got malaria he did know???) and that he also required money for medication as he was not entitled to it for the same reason as above. I would be grateful to you if you could clarify how this works in the army regarding the medical and food side of it.
I KNOW HE IS FAKE AND THAT MAKES ME SAD, AS I HAVE FOUND SO MANY PROFILES ELSWHERE USING THE SAME PICTURES AND SO MANY DIFFERENT NAMES! THESE PEOPLE HAVE NO SHAME!
My good friend was drawn in by a scammer, thank God she coped on in time. He pretends to be a sergent Frank Morgan based in Afganistanm, divorced with two children – sent all the pics etc. Only good thing was she received abeautiful bunch of red roses. Watch out ladies!!! and scammers we are closing in on ye.
Do not fall for capt.davidsonsolomon on Facebook… scam scam scam…
writes very eloquently, very handsome, very poetic then wants help
bringing his personal items back to US (Dallas) through his friend in the UK
he wants you to pay for shipment and then will pay you back when he arrives.
Titing,
Armymail.usa.com is from the domain usa.com which is NOT military. When you get a new picture, save it to your desktop, right click it and select Properties. One of the items it will show is file size. Most cameras today will give you a photo from 1MB to 5MB. The stuff they steal off the internet is 50kb to 150kb. That’s because many sites need to shrink down the size of the image to store it on their web page. A real picture from a real camera is MUCH larger. Try it with yours and see!
Rupi,
If we want leave we fill out a form and ask for it. it is free and no one need call my commander. You have a scammer there.
Has anyone been contacted by a Sergent Craig Williams, he claims he is in Libya and we is too good to be true at the moment. He has not asked me for money yet but cant help thinking that would be his next step. He is the US Army please let me, he has asked me to send a letter to his commadar for leave, which i am not going to do, but I just want to know if he is scammer. I do have photos of him, he says he is Irish, but was born and grew up in Texas, claims he has a 9 year year old son.
hello again yesterday i asked him about mil.email address n he gave me but i don’t know this the correct email address or not he said this is can’t use for chat …armymail@usa.com i ask him also to send me new picture of him he said okk.
reply to titing
honey he is so fake, used the name of Sgt. Micheal james with me and or just to allows you to believe at first his name is James! He is so fake…. Do no believe him, any soldier in the U.S. army would never ask for money… Take it from me, he never had the chance to ask me for money!! I am Proud Mother of a US Soldier!!

TO SANDRA – I FELT SO SAD FOR YOUR FRIEND. MY PAIN IS STILL WITH ME AND READING YOUR STORY BROUGHT TEARS TO MY EYES. IT WAS 10 MOS OF WOOING FOR ME ALSO. THE CRAP HE WROTE TO ME NOW MAKES ME SICK TO MY STOMACH. I READ IT NOW AND ITS OBVIOUS BULL , BUT WHEN YOUR SUCKED UP IN THE MOMENT YOUR BLIND. I NEVER KNEW ABOUT SCAMMERS WHEN HE TARGETED ME. I WISH I HAD FOUND THIS SITE THEN.
TO AMANDA – I HAVE HAD FIVE DIFFERENT NAMES USED ON ME IN THE LAST THREE WEEKS. I TRACED THEM TO LEEDS ENGLAND – THERE IS SOMEONE THERE TRYING TO SCAM . HE IS USING MANY DIFFERENT NAMES. I SUSPECT HE HAS USED MORE THAN FIVE DIFFERENT NAMES ON ME BUT AM SURE OF THE FIVE. THEY ALL GOT AROUND TO ASKING ME FOR MONEY. I BEGAN TO SUSPECT WHEN I DISCOVERED THERE WAS A COMMON DENOMINATOR WITH THEM ALL AND IT WAS ENGLAND. I HAVE POSTED ALL THEIR NAMES PRIOR TO THIS NOTE. ALSO FOUND KEN PRESTON BACK ON SHTYLE DATING SITE AGAIN AND CONFRONTED HIM, AND HE IMMEDIATELY TOOK HIS PICTURE OFF, AND I MEAN IN ABOUT 60 SECONDS, BUT NOT HIS PROFILE. I REPORTED HIM AGAIN. HE WAS USING A YOUNGER VERSION OF THE FIRST PICTURE HE USED. AMAZING. ANOTHER SOLDIER I SUSPECT NAMED BRIAN HESS. HE STARTED TO ASK ME TO “CATCH” SOME MONEY HERE IN THE STATES FOR HIM BUT QUICKLY TRIED TO RETRACT HIS REQUEST. THIS IS WHERE THEY TRY TO GET YOU TO RECEIVE MONEY FROM SOMEONE AND DEPOSIT IT IN YOUR BANK ACCOUNT FOR THEM AND THEN FORWARD THE MONEY TO THEM. THIS IS A SCAM. THIS ONE IS REAL BAD NEWS FOR YOU. YOU GET LEFT HOLDING A BAD CHECK. I THINK HE FORGOT WHO HE WAS ASKING. HE HAS POSTED A SECOND PROFILE ON SHTYLE, ONLY REVERSED HIS NAME. IDIOT.
to amanda yessss fake soldier give him heaps check google see if his name comes up!

He is not real. I have been reading post for the past 3 days when I find out all of this related to the scams.
I meet him couple of weeks ago in Match also and the story is the same the dad the mom the brother the kids. He did send me pictures but stupid enough the name in his uniform says James and he told me that his name was James Huds. I dont know anyother way to contact you. I hope we can exchange emails and pictures. Please replay if you get this message. I also think he is out again and I think he is just posting as James.
Hi People, The true stories that come to my attention about these fine Miliitary American soliders, the fake ones really are appauling, 2 years ago my cousin tell me she was talking to a sgt Steve Baker whom was supposed to be in Iraq. He spoke to her for around 10 months, woowed her, done all the right things said all the right things and in say four months time asked her to marry him, she clearly was in love with this person (beast) He said he was afraid for his life as his mates were getting killed around him, he pleaded with her to write a letter demanding his leave, and also asked for a communication device to be set up so they can speak, Ts2pl or something like that, first she sent 1000 aud for that, mind u it never worked, reason, Australia is too far out for it to receive signal, she bought that, 2 months later, he asked for 4000 aud for his plane fare.she gave it without hesitation, mind you, she had to save for it, money she used from what little she could save being on a pension. He sent her fake documents to prove his leave, I saw them and they looked so real anyone would have believed it. On the day she was supposed to meet him at Melbourne airport, she gets a call saying ‘someone put cocaine in his luggage and he had been detained’ she was just so devestated, to say the least, long story short, he was a nigerian scamming her from Malaysia. To this day she has never gotton over it, The most sad thing is, The real Sgt Steve Baker had died long before this person started communicating with her, She reported him to interpol and the fbi. I hope he was caught, I saw sgt Bakers obituary online same pix he sent her, but he was nothing but a fake Nigerian who’s name was moses or somethng like that. People like them should get severe punishments for toying with people’s emotions, she still has not gotton over it…:(
Ladies, I have no understanding of why you are sucked in by these con men? My sister nearly fell foul to this scam. Captain Harry “Jensen” Jordan US military SAF Marines, (unit does not exist) and the same old chat, dead wife from cancer, kids, wants to settle down in UK, blah, blah, blah…… Needs money for special TS2 communicator so they can talk etc.
Please firstly check the grammar within the emails usually shocking and should start the alarm bells ringing. Secondly, why would they need you to pay for anything and pay via a Western Union account out in Nigeria when they are based in Afghanistan? Beats me!!
The internet is riddled with scamming scum like this and my personal opinion, for what it’s worth, is the internet is not the place to meet anyone romantically PERIOD! There is nothing like meeting someone face to face in order to establish if you are compatible or not. This has been tested for over 2000 years and apparently works most of the time!!! Instant messenger, email etc does not equal instant romance.
Please be careful of this evil preying scum.
Catherine, sorry he is fake. NEVER trust a yahoo or other third party free email address.
For Allan – Just wanted to tell you my “real” friend sent me the transcript of his chat with the woman who tried to scam him. I see obvious warnings in reading it that stand out to me, but that is because I know all the things to look for. She was on Facebook, posting a very young and attractive female , stating 33yrs old, however, she looked to be more in her twenties in the picture. Her Facebook name was Rose Danny, which in seeing that made my warning sirens go off. In her chat she gives him a totally different email name. She was telling him she loved him and was looking for true love etc. She wanted to come to this country and start a business and that as soon as she was married she would receive her inheritance of $8 million. She was interested in sharing her money and life with him. Blah, blah. Well as I read through this chat, I noticed she mentions an interest in having a business in either oil or gas company of some kind. First a woman is not going to be interested in that field first before something in the beauty, clothing, or food line . So there I highly suspected it was not even a woman contacting him, but a man. So all you men, be careful of a woman posing on Facebook using the name Rose Danny, she is a scammer.Oh and she wanted him to pay for her ticket to the States. He said he did not have the money to do that. She has not been back that I know of.
Hi All – Yep I’m back, sooner than I thought I would be, but really have to report this. 1st – Catherine, I heard we do not have any troops in Nigeria, as I was told when several of my scammers proved to be coming from Nigeria. I have even had a couple say they were in Nigeria, admitting it. Some have said Lagos, Abuja, Oron, and Akiti something.I have had two in the last month I busted and they broke down and admitted were scamming, saying they were out of work, although one sent me supposedly a real pic of himself, and he was a well dressed, in a suit, black Nigerian man. Another came on the webcam and chatted with me, admitting he was a scammer. I don’t know why he did that, but he did. Of course I deleted and blocked both of them. I would bet my paycheck this month your Williams Johnston is a fake.
Okay – I told you I would get back about my suspicions on the person whose mail I traced to England. I posted 10-2-11 about him. Like I said, he informed me he was going to China for 2 wks, and I said this would be the platform he would use to present to me his scam..WELL BIG SURPRISE !!!! I WAS RIGHT !!!! He phones me this morning, advising me he had landed and was going to meet the Real Estate agent handling the sale of his property. Alls well and fine. Five hours later I get another email only this time all is not well…..the Attorney there has suddenly advised him that there are three documents he needs to get to be able to sell this property..These documents are going to cost him $12,000usd, (remember I said they always put usd, or pounds, after the money equasion) but he had only brought with him $10,000 and needed me to send $2000 immediately to him because his ATM card would not work in China !!! Woe is me. I had told him before he left, to be sure and check on everything before he left. Now in real life, either the Real Estate agent, or his Attorney, would have advised him of these forms before he ever left the United States on such an endeavor. I wrote him back and told him how sad and evil of a person I thought he was and that I already knew he would use his trip as a ploy to scam me and was just waiting to read it. As of this moment I have no response yet. I may get one and I may not. He was using the name James Dimitrios and was on Netlog.
Hello,
I read a lot but I did not find till now any Williams Johnston, in Abuja Nigeria. The address is Johnston_Williams@yahoo.com.
I found him on FB, with some friends in the army, seems to be real but, I m not sure.
He said that he is sgt in 1st battalion, 17 ir, 5 th Brigade, 2nd infantry division, monitoring And peace keeping. Birth date oct 11 1965.
