I just came across a post on “A Soldier’s Perspective” discussing a rather disgusting and disturbing trend that has guys posing as soldiers on Internet dating sites. Here’s the quote from CJ’s:
The latest trend involves trolling internet dating sites and convincing women that they are honorable Soldiers who have fallen in love and would do anything to communicate with the object of their affection. But, because they are deployed to Afghanistan or Iraq, they need you to sign up for an expensive telecommunications service like “Military TELEX” in order to make that happen. They profess unending love as their motivator and, unfortunately, many women have fallen for it.
The BIG red flag here is that the guy is asking for money. NEVER fall for that con.
If you come across anyone on a dating site who is asking you for money, regardless of the reason; block them immediately from further contact and then report them to the internet dating service.
You can also check out who is really behind their email address…
AND / or their telephone number…
To read specific details about about one incident, read CJ’s post “The New Military Dating Scam”.

For Sandra : Lol – he didn’t know what a military email was ….. well that pretty much sums up whether he is real or not. Robert has said all are given a .mil email.address. Everyone i have ever asked this from didn’t know either, and i proved them scammers. One time one said, ” A What?” So funny. Sandra I don’t ever know for sure who I’m talking to, as they make up names. I have not had one lately calling himself a General but that doesn’t mean he’s not calling himself something else. I was just trying to show you how one faked himself on the webcam to me.I believe it is possible to fake it. I believe right now I have one real person, who is in England, who has been using four different names and coming online with me.pretending to be four different people. The one denominator ? England. Its popping up with all of them. Out of these four different names, three has asked for some money in some way or another and all in just the last 3-4 days of each other. Now I have one left and that is the one using the California man’s id. I believe he is about to make his move in the next week or so. He is planning a 2 wk trip to Singapore. This trip is what he will use to present a scam. I reported two, a Mark Morris, and Richard Edwards. Today it was Eric Kingston asking for $1000 for a plane ticket back from London, oh and this was right after telling me he wanted me in his life and wanted to marry me. I doubt I have had no more than three conversations with this guy. See ? It always involves love and marriage. Wish I had a buck for every proposal i received this year, I’d have a nice little savings going.
To Allan : Yes men get targeted too. Just the other day I had a real male friend write to me saying he had been targeted. He is aware I chat with these creeps so I can report them. I would like to say that men scammers pose as women and target men, and vice versa, women scammers pose as men, and target women. You could be talking to the same sex. I discovered this after doing an intense investigation on one. It turned out to be a team, man and woman, working together. They were good. It was elaborate, with them using a couple different alias’s and I don’t mean email id’s, I mean real name alias’s. I worked and seached all night on the computer, sometimes for 3-4 days at a time, and it took about 3 months to unravel their whole layout. You can’t see who is typing these words to you on the screen. It doesn’t matter if they call you on the phone either, all you hear is a voice.. You think she wanted to come to the UK.. did she ask you to send the money to her? or ask you to purchase the ticket for her ? If she said send the money to her so she could get a ticket, she would have came to the UK when the moon turned to real cheese.
Hey people, Guess what?? The infamous General Barno is from Ghana, I knew it what a fake..I guess he did his training at ‘The academy for fine idiots’..
Thanks for letting me know Margaret, so u spoke with the so called General too? Another thing, he did not even know what a Military email address was? Some general!!…lol
Its not just ladies that are being targeted. We men are as.well as I was targeted by a Gahnian posing as a serving Us female nurse in iraq. Thephotos were of a genuine serving us nurse but what made me suspicious was when i asked what her service no was she couldnt give me one as she didnt have one.It was a scam to get into the UK by asking me to pay for her flight here from Ghanna.
This is especially for Sandi Pattison : Let me tell you of my own experience. I have only had one occasion involving the phony webcam scenario and trust me it was quite a shock for me, and totally was unexpected. I had been chatting for a few weeks with this one and had not really had much of a sign he was a scammer yet. We exchanged phone numbers and began to talk for a few minutes daily on the phone. So he finally said he wanted to chat on the webcam and so I said ok that would be great. So I’m thinking well he must be real then if he is willing to come on camera. Lol —sorry I’m chuckling right now as I remember this —ok so he comes on view – now i need to tell you I have no sound on my monitor – so you must type any conversation that you want to have. I begin to watch – he is just chatting away but typing nothing. It appears also intermittently that he is singing something but then begins to appear to be chatting again – so it is chatting and singing, chatting and singing. So I typed to him , why are you singing ? and why are you not typing anything to me ? I receive no answer. I suddenly am quite puzzled and in my horror realize that the image I am looking at is repeating itself over and over. It’s a frigin film !!! It was so creepy that I just clicked it off my screen. It was faked and how it is done exactly I’m not sure but yes they can be faked. His explanation was that my computer was messing up.This man claims to live in the middle of California, only 2 hrs drive from me but claims he does not drive long distances. Lol – I have traced his emails to England although he does not know I have done so. I have found a record of the name he is using in this town in California. I’m thinking this person in England is using this man’s identity. He claims to be leaving for Singapore China on Tuesday to sell property there whereby he will profit $3.4 million dollars and has proposed marriage to me. Lol – sorry am laughing again. I have already told him not to call me and say he is stranded in China, because I have no money. He said why would i do that ? I had no comment. I am hanging in here because I am dying of curiosity as to exactly what is he going to use as his scam. I know one will be coming. I am considering sending a registered letter to the real person residing in this town in California, as I do have a street name from google. I just was not able to get a house number. I may be able to let him know his name and pictures have been used. This will be the first time I have been able to locate the real person, if I am successful. I will get back to you all and let you know how this turns out.
Hi Wendy – Thank you. I try to post my experiences in order to help others. I’ve chatted with a great many of them this year. Sometimes you have to play along for a while with them before they hit you with their scam. I’ve had some who waited only two weeks, and some up to three mos. I’m now beginning to learn how to trip them up. It’s so funny. Those phony forms I’ve been hit with three times by three different ones this year. I received a lot of information from Msg Robert McLaughlin on this site and I’m highly thankful he’s here. For everyone – I have been hit about three times with the” give me the money for the phone” scam also. As soon as I said I could not afford it, they totally disappeared. I have discovered that each one that uses two first names as his name has turned out to be a scammer. They all start out with i love you and the marriage gig, widowed or divorced, usually at least one child or two, hardly ever more than that, most of their family is expired, and seem to like to use the rank of Sgt. a lot. All the ones lately in the last few months are now saying they are in Kabul also. The best advice i can give and from experience is that as soon as your conversation involves any kind of request that pertains to any financial situation requiring you to give up money, its a scam. You will also have to block them to rid yourself of the scum sucking parasites.
Hi Everyone – I’m reporting the name Richard Edwards. Scammer. Using email richwards77@yahoo.com. Claimed working on an oil rig off coast of Scotland. Two daughters in boarding school in New York. Seemed very real until he asked me for $700 for school supplies for one daughter. I got the usual bs on loved me and wanting marriage. Said his daughters birthday was this upcoming Oct. 5th. I asked for an address to send her a birthday card and he says would give it to me later. Next day hit me for the money.
Wendy,
One final signature? RED FLAG. he also needs to have a dhs.gov email address. if his work was that secret where he could not give out any numbers he should not even be telling anyone that job. Think about it. You do not say your job is secret to everyone, that is advertising it. You just do it quietly. He’s fake or a wannabee.
Mandy,
He is fake, ask for his .mil email address.
Sandra,
The general is a fake, ask for his .mil email address.
Once you get an address, assuming you do, write to him on it and have him wrote back!
I even saw this Gen. Barno on wecam is that possible to fake?? as it definitely was him
Hi All, Another interesting conversation with someone from the military in Afghan i’m not sure of, He claims he is a one General David Barno. Now i have spoken with him for 7 months now as a friend. Has not asked me for money as yet. Still chatting with him at present, still not sure if he is the real McCoy. My gut says not sure at present, I guess time will tell. He certainly speaks like he is military but who knows there is so much on the net now, to gain all this information. In time if he proves a fake. Which no doubt he probably is, will post the outcome…Anyone else who ever spoke to him plse let me know..Thanks sandi
I need your help… One of my coworkers sister maybe being scammed I cannot seem to get any evidence he is but there are so many red flags. If he is a scammer is he is good. This lady has been emailing him for 3 years. He says his name is Charles “Chip” McQueen email is holeshotpro_10yahoo.com states he works for homeland security. 60 year old male. He claims since he works for homeland security he is not able to devulge much information. He states he has an adult daughter that I think lives in the states but will only give her first name and no phone number. She cannot call him they talk via email. Says he cannot retire or come to see her until he get one more signature. All red flags but this is where he throws me a loop. The sister claims she met him once briefly 3 years ago? Now she is either not telling the truth or he is for real…. Other issue I have is he has never asked for money claims once he gets the final signature he will be with her and has plenty of money… I have tried to run the address but found nothing. I don’t know much about homeland security but why do I have a hard time believing that in 3 years he has never gotten time off or leave or what ever they call it to be able to see her. Does anyone have any ideas how to get information on this guy to prove he is either scammer or real. I also wanted to say keep up the good work on finding scammers and playing games with them . Scum build up is always hard to get rid of and always seems to come back . Thanks again for any help
i wrote to you a while ago to see if any one has herd of a sgt martin lauseng he uses e mail address sgt.lauseng@rocket mail.com im sure hes a scammer he used me i made a mistake in sending this man money as i got so involved with him i sent him in total over 2 thousand pound i have photos of this guy if you want to see them please can anyone help me find out if he is
Margaret Rodgers
Many thanks for the information in your post, much appreciated, personally being a civilian I would not know about these things, as a lot of women I guess. I have been sent emails with forms, not filled out by the way, ensuring that I would get my money back for his transit, when he arrives at his destination to me in the UK, they call it a MGBF (money back guarantee form), looked authentic, until I saw the real form that Robert metioned on here. I sure would like to know who the real person is in the photo’s.
I am sorry to hear that you lost money due to these horrible people, I am truly thankful for finding this site and to you for confirming to me what I thought may not be right. Please I would like it if you would email me at some point, be nice to hear from you 🙂 my address is chilcottwendym@yahoo.co.uk
To MSG Robert McLaughlin: I would appreciate it if you could respond to my post via the above email address if it is alright with you, as it may be easier for me to ask more questions.
Keep up the good work on this site, very informative and us ladies have to stick together and look out for one another against these scammers!
For Everyone – I have two new names to report as scammers. #1 using id as John Bill, claimed he was a model for advertising. Sent me pictures, and looks like in 30’s somewhere. Never married, no children. Goes to Ireland for a photo shoot and contacts me saying all luggage stolen, has no money now, could i send something to help. I told him to go to the Embassy and next day he says he did, and they told him they were “too busy” to help him. HAHAHA I’m still laughing at this one. Traced his email and was coming from Lagos, Nigeria. Deleted and blocked. He was on Netlog.
#2 using id of Mark Morris, widowed, one son 9yrs old, named Chris. Managing his late fathers mining business of gold. After a few weeks says very depressed , his business is failing because he has no money to ship the gold to his clients. He first wanted to send a package to me but i cut him off short and said no. He dropped that proposal. A week later I get this business failure crap and he just needs $100. I gave him many alternatives to get $100 but he said no he could not to all of them. I was his only answer in retrieving this money. I told him to go pawn something he might have. He said forget it, he did not need to be insulted. I said im not insulting you, your insulting yourself. I said a man with all this gold and your asking a lady living only on social security ? I said i only had $1.90 in my account . He still continued asking for the money, even though i had just told him that. I thought you are a disgusting pig. I deleted and blocked. He was on Netlog also.
Watch out for these new schemes. Apparently a lot of them know the soldier gig is up, although i do have two online right now I’m waiting for them to come on with the scam. It’s too soon for them yet.
To Wendy re your post dated dated 9-26-11 addressed to Msg Robert MLaughlin. Robert has posted several times in the past soldiers never pay for leave or early retirement. Civilians are never asked to pay money out for any Military personnel. Everything is handled through the branch of service they are in. I’m sorry, this guy is a scammer. If they don’t succeed in scamming you with one name, they’ll try and come back and contact you with a whole different name and info but it will be the same person. I know because it happens to me weekly. I know all this because last March i was scammed for $3000 by one who said he needed it for processing his leave to come to the states to meet me. He never came and he actually told me i would not be getting my money back. To put insult to injury, he confessed he was not the soldier he had claimed to be. Proceeds to tell me he actually is a private citizen, a antique dealer to be exact, and was kidnapped by thugs who he escaped from and was being hunted down and he was hiding. So here comes his second scam…..starts telling me he has no money and has no way to survive, i am his only hope to stay alive. Starts asking for money for hotel fee, food, cab fare, and internet cost. Then says get him $6000 while I am keeping him alive so he can come here to the states to me. They are cold, heartless, and ruthless SOB’s, and care nothing about you. Your like a ATM machine to them and nothing else Delete and block him and forget you ever talked to him. Once you send any money they will hang onto you like a piranha. It will take me 2 yrs to recuperate from the debt he caused me. I lost my bank account and now have extremely bad credit because I believed him. Also a Major ? He would have a high income, think about it. I know Robert will verify what i have told you here as well as a lot of the other ladies here too. Remember we are here because most of us have had this experience. Take care and precaution. Maggie R

I would be grateful if you could help me with some information, I have been chatting with someone who claims to be an American soldier serving in afghanistan, he contacted me via FB, gave me his yahoo email/ID, he has asked me to pay for his leave and so he can come over to the UK and visit me, he is widowed with a son, he goes under the name of Captain Ned Sutton on yahoo and just Ned Sutton on FB, (oh and he has just been promoted to Major) I would be ever grateful if you could check him out for me to see if he is real or not? As I am really concerned after reading some of the stories on here. If you could give me any help and advice, it would be very much appreciated. Thankyou wendy
I have recently met a guy on line, that goes by the name of Michael James, claims he is field 18, he has also told me he is stationed about an hour and 30 minutes form Kabul, but will not give an exact location… claims he is a SGT. but will not give pay grade, nor will he tell me, what letter is behind the field 18. Now I have tried the tiny eye site and the pic shows no where else on the internet… also tried the military site, but there are many Michael James on there… he is using the middle initial H. I met him on match.com and have gotten other info from him on yahoo chat… We have been chatting now for 3 weeks, and he is not using the i need money ploy, or calling me baby or anything like that… (He does know I am a mom of a new recruit to the army). He did tell me he was a widow, his mom from Ireland, dad from Ohio.. has 2 kids, Dad and Brother dead, etc.. after 3 weeks of chatting, he deleted the match.com account, I have asked for pictures with my name on it and him in uniform, and an email address, but he claims due to his level of “work”, he is not sure if I am a terrorist… So how can I find out for sure, this guy is for real?
All help would be appreciated.
Jefferey M Ademec – Info online says he is a staff sargent photo posted on a news site regarding medal being awarded in 2003. This man claims he is a colonel. Claims he has a 9 year old daughter being kept by a Nannie that he was from N.C. He is supposedly deployed in Iraq and of course needs money for the TS2 payment to his commander and the communications officer – so we can talk on the telephone.
He is asking for money – beware
His yahoo Messenger / email ID is is J.Adamec38
He is impersonating a soldier – this is not only a scam, and fraud but Identity theft.
His MYSPACE URL is http://www.myspace.com/568634566 that is how he originally contacted me before we started talking on yahoo messenger.
This man is impersonating a soldier – a real soldier but attempting to scam women. He wrote me on my myspace account – then asked me for my yahoo messenger ID where we were talking. 2nd day he asked for photos and promised to send some. He claims he is 47, then said 48, and has a 9 year old daughter. He claimed 18 years military service and that he was on deployment in Iraq, and that we had to go through a process in order to talk on the phone. Installing a TS2 and of course it was going to cost 600.00 us that would have to go to his base commander
His yahoo email is j.adamec38@yahoo.com

The MYSPACE page is at http://www.myspace.com/568634566
Sadly enough the photo and name belong to a real soldier and his identity is being stolen to run this scam.

Jeffery Adamec: so u can shoot??
lynnalunsford: I’m pretty fair with a hand gun
lynnalunsford: but I dont shoot rifles or shotguns

lynnalunsford: made my ears ring
Jeffery Adamec: i love to hear that u can handle a gun as a soldier wife u willl need to do that
Jeffery Adamec: lol
lynnalunsford: but I always hit the target and always within say a hands with spread
lynnalunsford: so they said I was pretty good at it
lynnalunsford: well hopefully I would never have to fire one at a person.
lynnalunsford: I have never shot a animal, have not been hunting
lynnalunsford: but I do like deer meat, venison
lynnalunsford: and I have eaten buffalo, moose, caribou, reindeer
Jeffery Adamec: ok

lynnalunsford: that was temp work
Jeffery Adamec: lynna i wish we can start talking on Phone
lynnalunsford: well do you have skype ?
Jeffery Adamec: whats skype.??
lynnalunsford: Its like a phone program and it also allows video
lynnalunsford: you download it to your computer
lynnalunsford: and you can talk from one computer to another for free
Jeffery Adamec: cos i wish to hear your sexy voice
lynnalunsford: do you have a headset and microphone?
Jeffery Adamec: stop i dont have access to all this here
Jeffery Adamec: ok??
Jeffery Adamec: lol

Jeffery Adamec: yea
Jeffery Adamec: i mean talking to eachother on phone
Jeffery Adamec: i get your number so i can call u
lynnalunsford: well, I was just saying rather than it cost you cell phone minutes
lynnalunsford: but sure
lynnalunsford: I can give you my number
lynnalunsford: 972-213-1729
Jeffery Adamec: cool
lynnalunsford: thats what they call a magick jack phone
lynnalunsford: it plugs into my computer
lynnalunsford: and I can carry it with me anywhere and plug my phone jack into any computer and have the same number
lynnalunsford: routes my calls there to me
lynnalunsford: and it has voice mail also
lynnalunsford: the voice messages get emailed to my email account
Jeffery Adamec: but before we can do this lynna we have to go through a process
lynnalunsford: ok what is that ?
Jeffery Adamec: lynna i dont wanna say this cos i dont know how u gonna feel
lynnalunsford: just say it
lynnalunsford: whatever it is
Jeffery Adamec: ok babe
Jeffery Adamec: we have to go through a process called Ts2 phonening provision
lynnalunsford: you will need to explain that to me ?
Jeffery Adamec: ok
Jeffery Adamec: so we will have to pay a sum to my base so we can be put on line and this will be use to get the form which will be signed and by the communication soldier
lynnalunsford: really ?
lynnalunsford: when did they start doing that ?
lynnalunsford: I thought all soldiers were given some free cell phone time to call friends and family
Jeffery Adamec: not when on deployment for security reasons
lynnalunsford: ok
lynnalunsford: so who has to be contacted and where? Homeland security or Military Intelligence .. or who ?
lynnalunsford: btw did you send me your pics back yet ?
Jeffery Adamec: no that works when in the state
lynnalunsford: well how long is it going to take to arrange that
Jeffery Adamec: but in Iraq its or any other deployed state is called Ts2
lynnalunsford: well I had a friend who was over there once
lynnalunsford: who called me on a satellite phone
lynnalunsford: but thats a few years back now
Jeffery Adamec: after u pay the some to my base it will be activated under 48hrs
lynnalunsford: me ?
lynnalunsford: thats really odd
lynnalunsford: never heard of that
lynnalunsford: which base?
lynnalunsford: the one you are assigned to state side or the one in Iraq?
Jeffery Adamec: yea i never did too untill i got here
Jeffery Adamec: yea
lynnalunsford: i think you should just download skype to your computer and use a headset to talk to me
Jeffery Adamec: am in Barsa in iraq
lynnalunsford: much simpler
lynnalunsford: i see
Jeffery Adamec: my duty station is Ramandi
lynnalunsford: and you are in the army correct ?
Jeffery Adamec: the sum is 600dollars
lynnalunsford: well I will probably need your exact name and title, and ID number and the name of the person
Jeffery Adamec: but we will do the payment together
lynnalunsford: who I am supposed to contact
Jeffery Adamec: my commander
Jeffery Adamec: u will get half and i will get half too
lynnalunsford: well you know I dont make that kind of money to afford that.
Jeffery Adamec: cos we get 70 dollar as our weekly allowance for our upkeep
Jeffery Adamec: so i save 50 out of mine for the stuff
Jeffery Adamec: i know but u can get 300
lynnalunsford: Jeff
lynnalunsford: You are scamming me
lynnalunsford: this whole thing is a internet scam
lynnalunsford: that has been written up on the internet
lynnalunsford: a google search shows it
lynnalunsford: Plus I have had people I knew in Iraq, whom I talked to before
lynnalunsford: and I never had to pay a dime
lynnalunsford: sorry but thats not gonna work.
lynnalunsford: Plus I looked up this name, and its a legitimate soldiers name
lynnalunsford: but he’s was a staffsargent who received the a medal, the same medal picture you use on facebook…… but it was posted online on the news site in 2003
lynnalunsford: he was a staff sargent then
lynnalunsford: So I say you should be ashamed using his name and trying to rip people off.
BUZZ!!!
J.adamec38: u there…??
lynnalunsford: i am here

lynnalunsford: You know what – You have told me you are a colonel and made 25,000 a month and now you are asking me, a veteran on disability to send your boss money to a base in Iraq so you can talk on the phone with me ? They can just deduct that from your pay.
lynnalunsford: I was former military, and you never have to pay cash up front for that you can sign a payroll deduct.
lynnalunsford: In fact
lynnalunsford: having a daughter here in the USA I would think you would already have that set up so you could talk to her
lynnalunsford: since you have been in the military you said 18 years
lynnalunsford: its not like you just got drafted last week
lynnalunsford: so no, I cant send any money over there.

Maria
Search on Gordon Hannett – they have to use the surname as it is shown on the uniform – they just change the first name. I believe that this is the person whose photos you are recieving.
I know this because it was the ones that were used to scam me.
Regards
Pauline
Rochelle,
I cannot check out UK military, are you UK or US? Be careful and if he wants money, report him!
Margaret,
Keep them busy! Glad you are asking those questions!
Maria,
