I just came across a post on “A Soldier’s Perspective” discussing a rather disgusting and disturbing trend that has guys posing as soldiers on Internet dating sites. Here’s the quote from CJ’s:
The latest trend involves trolling internet dating sites and convincing women that they are honorable Soldiers who have fallen in love and would do anything to communicate with the object of their affection. But, because they are deployed to Afghanistan or Iraq, they need you to sign up for an expensive telecommunications service like “Military TELEX” in order to make that happen. They profess unending love as their motivator and, unfortunately, many women have fallen for it.
The BIG red flag here is that the guy is asking for money. NEVER fall for that con.
If you come across anyone on a dating site who is asking you for money, regardless of the reason; block them immediately from further contact and then report them to the internet dating service.
You can also check out who is really behind their email address…
AND / or their telephone number…
To read specific details about about one incident, read CJ’s post “The New Military Dating Scam”.

I was (tried-meaning he tried ) to scam me by someone using an american army mans pics and profile, telling me hes in afghanistan and he used up his leave and to write to army to say im his fiance and that we want to get married and using my illness as leverage. I busted him when the email i got from the so called army leave dept came back with misspelled words and uneven margins and requesting 1320.00 so he could come home, i told him he was a scammer and reported it to the FTC, but he has some personal information of mine that he may try to use in order to scam someone else.
Diane – did the guy from “Are You Interested”, Walterian7@yahoo.com pose a picture of himself as a soldier? The guy who scamed me as I said is Waiter Bruston, on Facebook, posed as a soldier. I thought I saw his picture as the soldier with “Are You Interested” written underneath the picture on the News Feed page the other day. I almost fell out of my chair. My instincts really make me feel, this could surely be the same person.
Beverly of New Zealand – I was informed by JustAnswer Military.Law.com that there is no charge to our military men and women for leaves, or retirement, or flights to anywhere , and these papers are all handled through the Military and never by civilians.
To Margaret: Luckily, I found this website. walterian7@yahoo.com was the only info I had. He contacted me through Are You Interested? (on facebook). I had just recently had an experience with a James Smith (james_carter164@yahoo.com), who contacted me through the same site. I became suspicious when he asked for money to come home on early retirement. I was already suspicious when walterian7 wanted to yahoo messenger. When I asked several times for military email he never responded. I then told him I knew he was a scammer and he should be check his story before he tries to be somebody he is not. LOL. I reported him to AYI and he has been blocked.
oh and he wants to stay friends with me!! and talk on cam ….i dont think so, probably another scam

To Beverly from New Zealand
Hi I have been chatting to a guy calling himself Sgt Stephen Bryant based at Camp Phoenix in Afghanistan. All seemed ok even though he said he had fallen for me pretty quickly. He then said he was going to tell his son all about me(he claims he is a single dad).I then started chatting to his son too!Can not believe I have been so gullable.Any way he says he is coming home then he isn’t.Son is with a nanny over here where he usually lives, quite amazing since he claims to be in the US army. There were little signs that all was not right but he always managed to explain them away.We have spoken on the phone may times and it all seemed great. Then last week he informs me they wanted to send him to Libya straight from Afghanistan but he can get leave if I request it as his fiance!!!Well alarm bells started ringing but thought I was doing him an injustice so went ahead and sent an email to wait for it The Leave Transit Department!Got some documents mailed to me which I sent off, then came the sting….I had to purchase a Liberty Pass for him at a cost of £1,560 GBP!!Well I told him I don’t have that sort of money and he said if I get a loan he will sort it when he gets home.Well I decided on Sunday to ask a few questions and requested his military email. He got very upset and accused me of not trusting him.By Monday I had finally seen the light and told him so.I then had a call at work on my mobile from his friend who was in the Medical Centre with him because he had cut his wrists and his friend had found him just in time.Well that was it I decided to play him at his own game.Rang him and begged forgiveness.lol.Now since then I have turned detective and traced his emails which have come from Lagos and London!!!!Amazingly after trying to kill himself he was back on duty later that day.Now I have told hom that I have the money(I don’t)and he is getting ready to fly home to me.
I feel such a fool because I am not usually taken in by people but this guy was good.Must admit to being very hurt because I actually believed him.Now I am just going to block him from Friday after I have made my fake money transfer.Have posted his pics on as many scam sights as possible and reported him to the dating sight. Is there anything else I can do?Just wish I knew who the poor guy was in the pics especially if he is single.lol
Anyway this has hurt but not put me off dating online as I now know what to look out for.Would like to hear about your experience but not sure how to get in touch.
To Diane : You wrote May22, 2011 regarding Walterian7@yahoo.com. My scammer is Walter Bruston who contacted me on Facebook in January. He has chatted with me on Yahoo messenger. Put up a picture of a soldier. Said he was from Moody Ala., divorced 8yrs, with one child. Says in the Army, second lt. officer, now stationed in Nigeria and was previously in Afghanistan. He has professed much love and wanting marriage and etc. I sent $3000 for his leave to come and see me and he never came, giving me a pretty good excuse. He now is asking me for $6000 for his early retirement. Of course I now know he is a scammer and am stringing him along. I am in the process of reporting him to every available place possible. I saw Walterian7@yahoo.com and became suspicious of that. He is very good and persuasive. Be on your best guard here. He has a profile on Facebook under Waiter Bruston, which i assumed got misspelled either by accident or on purpose. You can check that out if you wish. I am thankful for this website and can give heads up.

Has anyone heard of a Major General Patrick M. Kingman? Usual guff, serving in Kabul-Afghanistan, widowed, wife died in auto crash, has young son living with guardian in the UK, send some lovely pictures & even some of an operations room with his colleagues in…. Will I go on MSN or Skype to chat etc…
It is sad that they think women will be taken in by this, I am playing along at the moment to try and get as much information as possible to pass to the dating agency (for all the good it will do)
Using 2 email addresses
kingman.pat@gmail.com
kingman.patrick@hotmail.co.uk
i also met at the chatroom named sergent frank lee and he said he was retired US army last june 2010, he was in Iraq baghdad and he must look for his own wife and he choose to be here in the Philippines as his family were died in 9/11 terrorist attack and his wife were gone too. so he said he must come here for good to build his new family and a house to live in. first is to send a package thru the diplomat and that dplomat said i had to pay a delivery charge for that packages. then in order for me to believe he sent me his copy of his passport and his certificate of retirement through my email..but when i searched about his named was not in the list as US Army.Since in the beginning of our chat i really doubted about him too. its good i searched and read about this internet dating scam. and i am happy that i came out of this conclusions beware of good words of a stranger in the internet.

Msge Robet sadly you right money gone
another one of my tricks is to ask to see their cam Interesting what they say or onb the yahoo voice msge One came on had african voice when he said was american He told me his voice was crossbreed hahahahahahah I caught him out He left
to lynda the nigerian police arrested him
Last year our tv3 crew went over to nigeria and uncovered a few scammers and were arrested I saw that here They went to dubai and caught nzer living in a back street He agreed to meet fbi but left his case and took off The FBI had the other 2 involved The nzer is over land scams
So Match.com – guy IM’s me that he is in Afghanistan on a peacekeeping mission. he gave me this email address – so we could chat on yahoo. hjordan212@yahoo.com.
Even sent pictures of himself – Scam! He is using the name Jordan Hueckstaedt and said he was retiring soon from the military and that his wife died 9 years ago from a kidney problem.
Do not believe this guy ladies!
The scammer i had, still have is now on Badoo again, under the name of sgt Salvatore A Giunta, (he was before and was busted, but i think he is so stupid) anyway, i report this on badoo site, but he is still on it????
I copie all he wrote in his profile and all the pictures to.
Than i wrote an offline chat and made him just look like an idiot, and made such fun of him, i thought he would be so insolted, that he would never ever contact me again, but no, he is still talking every night, even now i told him he will never get 1 euro from me, and i told him i know now for sure he is a scammer. But i don’t know what it is, but he has a BIG billboard on his fronthead that says “I’m stupid and alway’s lose my own ID, lol) I am having a lot of fun, i come only once a week on msn, and find 20 offline messages and mails from him. I almost feel sorry, and was thinking about inviting him to Amsterdam, to buy him a pare of wooden shoes, haha. He now knows, we Dutch woman are maybe to fool, but not for a long time, and i told him; what comes arround, go’s arround (3x lol)keep up the good work, and i like very much to contact CJ, so i hope you will give me your email address.
I just got a hit from a classic scammer, who is trying to pass himself off as a Major General Seward, US Army. Who kindly suggested I google his profile/biography, which has caused me to almost pee myself from laughing so hard at the obvious mistakes, grammatical and biographical. One of the basics is that he calls himself Chris Seward, while the hokey bio information states Steven Seward, but both bio’s have exactly the same general background information, just different faces. You’d think they would actually try and keep some continuity in their scams. The websites look professional enough, but I gather they are fake sites as well.
This is what I found;
http://usamilitaryupdate.weebly.com/
http://stevenseward.weebly.com/
The audacity of this individual has amazed me. I can barely resist the temptation to string him along for a little while, while fighting the urge to just report him and be done with it.
He has contacted me on Connecting Singles, which seems to be rather common.
Other than being just another scammer, surely there must be some consequences for masquerading as a general? My hatred for these low life’s knows no bounds. I am the daughter of a Vietnam Vet (Australian) and friends with serving military, so you can imagine how much I despise these animals who use the identity of both living and deceased military personnel.
Thank you MSG Robert McLaughlin – this has been a valuable source of information for me, particularly to pass on to my girlfriends, who still find it hard to believe that that charming man in uniform who has been spouting ‘I love you’ etc is just another jerk scammer.
I think Im going to toy with this jerk for a little while and see if I can spoil his day.
just clicked on 2 my yahoo mail and who do you think was on trying 2 talk 2 me yes MR RAYMOND BARCINAS what a bloody check he has told him where 2 go still trying 2 convince me of his identiny wasnt FALSE i right told him i had proof but didnt tell him wha tbut hopefully now he will maybe leave me alone in peace but he will be onto his next victim omg what a shame it’s going 2 be for the next ladies i hope like me they are more street wise and dont fall for his deceit and lies like i did well beware THE PREDATOR IS ON THE PROWL AGAIN 2 DO MORE SCAMMING LADIES TAKE CARE 🙂
I recently wrote asking if anyone had heard about someone using walterian7@yahoo.com. He statd he liked my profile (which is very generic) and wanted to know more. Said he was serving in the army, was divorced with one kid. He asked me to yahoo messenger (which was my first clue). I told him I do not messenger and asked him to email me from his military email. Have not heard back from him and don’t expect to.
