I just came across a post on “A Soldier’s Perspective” discussing a rather disgusting and disturbing trend that has guys posing as soldiers on Internet dating sites. Here’s the quote from CJ’s:
The latest trend involves trolling internet dating sites and convincing women that they are honorable Soldiers who have fallen in love and would do anything to communicate with the object of their affection. But, because they are deployed to Afghanistan or Iraq, they need you to sign up for an expensive telecommunications service like “Military TELEX” in order to make that happen. They profess unending love as their motivator and, unfortunately, many women have fallen for it.
The BIG red flag here is that the guy is asking for money. NEVER fall for that con.
If you come across anyone on a dating site who is asking you for money, regardless of the reason; block them immediately from further contact and then report them to the internet dating service.
You can also check out who is really behind their email address…
AND / or their telephone number…
To read specific details about about one incident, read CJ’s post “The New Military Dating Scam”.

Firstly i would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has posted on here. Thanks to you all and the advice you gave I did an IP address search and found that the soldier i was speaking to was a scam…The soldiers name was Captain Wayne Smith….I challenged the person on msn asking for an email from his army email address, which he said was not aloud. so i asked who the person was from the name and address i had got from the IP search. He said I obviously had a soldier giving me advice and said he hoped i was happy with him… then he dissapeared.
He still comes on msn and the thought that he is luring another woman makes me sick, so if you see anyone on the sites with this name please send a warning. I was on the freedating web site.
Good luck to you all and I hope you find real love in your lives. x
I was deployed to Afghanistan as a civilian contracting officer with the DoD, and worked directly with the military, all branches, for six months. I spent my tour in Bagram.
Ladies, if anyone claiming to be U.S. military says they need you to be involved in any request for leave, they are lying. Emergency leave is coordinated through the Red Cross, and back through their command, and it is only for true emergencies. Air Force typically deploys for six months, and use their R&R when they return to their home station, Army deploys for typically one year, and can use their R&R leave during that time. The troops use military air to get home, they don’t need you to pay for transportation or anything else.
If they say they can’t have credit cards, ATM, etc., they are lying, period. They have cell phones, and can pay for Afghan service overseas. A lot of the camps are fully wired, the troops have access to to the internet and skype.
As for the US Army investigating, they do not have the resources to investigate these scammers, be real. These things are rampant, the cost of national defense is exhorbitant, do you honestly think the US military is going to devote their limited resources to finding your scammer? Use your intuition, it is a gift that all women have, use it! Listen to your gut, and don’t allow yourself to be taken in. My best to all of you.
GENERAL JIMMY WILLIAM HAYWARD e-mail survival53@live.com
Another name to add to the list of scammers. I have looked him up on other sites and it would appear that he has also been using the name RUDDOCK as it is the same photo.I have been sent photos of this man with his two daughters. It is disgusting that these sick men are willing to use such photos and tell such lies.
Luckily I did not trust the “fake soldier” and found several sites like this. I have put his name on them all.
Get the word out there to all your friends!
a three star general named Barney Lynch contacted me saying he is is Iraq on a short peace-keeping mission. after many contacts and live im chats of course he was in love and wanted me….He had to be out with troops for 2-3 days with no contact so I waited. He got back safe and sound and had information to share with me…while out with his troops they came across a stash of talaban money in a cave and a tanker filled with gold bars and said he was given $5 million cash as an (atta boy–job well done) and that he was afraid for his life ( like a 3 star general wouldnt have soldiers to protect him right?) and wanted to send the cash to me here in the states as his mom was too lod, his son too young and his sisters were out of the country. Then he would retire quickly and hurry here to me and live a happy life! I really think it was a terrorist trying to get cash into the country,, I was sent a photo of a u.n.envoy badge of a man who would be getting in contact with me for more info…I turned this info into a high ranking army official and have washed my hands but wanted to warn the rest of the women about this!
hi been speaking to Staff Sargeant Andrew Stephen Ruddock for two months 2 young daughters dead wife house in UK coming home to retire to his mothers house wants to open a jewellery shop in London always been suspect I have been friendly blackmailed by the stories of a difficult life and now says he will kill himself if I don’t want him. I have all messages and photographs anyone talking about the same guy?? He hasn’t asked for anything nor have I given anything feel sorry for the real soldier who has had a difficult life. hope he is happy and safe I would feel bad if he had been killed.
A “soldier” contacted me on Plenty of Fish By the name of Coddy Stone with the email coddystone@yahoo.com. I realized he was a scammer right away. I don’t know who’s picture he was using but he accidently left another name in his profile which I Googled. That brought up a real soldiers picture by the last name of Zendrosky which was in a NJ newspaper for a commendation he received.
Then I looked Coddy Stone on Facebook and found Coddy Stone Scnproski with Sgt. Zendrosky’s pic. and then found two more Facebook profiles with the last name Zendrosky, two different first names, and the real Sgt. Zendrosky’s pic.
This Coddy Stone is also on Match.com, My Space, and Australiandatingwomen.com and says he lives in Dallas, TX originally from North Carolina, is a widow with a grown son who is still in NC.
I still haven’t come across the very first picture he used. I’ve checked all of these sites about dating scams and also TinEye reverse image search. So, if anyone has also been contacted by this Coddy Stone please let me know and we could compare pictures. And btw, he does not have a Nigerian IP address. It comes from Moffit Field Naval Air Station in CA!!! He is very well spoken, no grammar mistakes, etc. and if it weren’t for finding the phony pictures I might have believed him.
Hello, I live in Ontario, Canada and have been Scammed by a other care2- Two names: Mark Smith and Paulson Pickens, both have same picture…posing as a US Marine. Was shot in Aug/2010 and wants help getting his fathers money into and for his Mothers Charity (WHO). Says he has NO Family at all Email addresses he gave me were: infor_parker@mail2litigator.com and marine4uca@aol.com
I have emails from him and pictures. I was lucky because nothing happened but that’s because I wrote him a email that he was not expecting and never wrote back. You can email me with any new info at 4allmarine@hotmail.ca
Thank you
Yes, I have also been scammed by CAPT.JEFFERY HUMPREY,on datetheuk website who wanted me to pay for a phone line £230, but there was a discrepancy in the recievers address, so i didn’t pay. And when Western Union told me it was not the first time they had heard this story, I searched for such scams on sites such as this one. I have found an email another woman was sent which is almost word for word the same as mine, from a different named soldier, but the same camp, E8 Army Camp Victory. Afghanistan. And on here the same name as the scammer. At least I had my instincts to not pay, even though i did fall for the romantic poetry.
I was in iMESH downloading music, when a soldier, ‘Major Edwen Oscar Dunn, USArmy’ saw my profile and liked me… After IM’ing in iMESH, we went to Yahoo IM, smart me, I saved the conversations and photos he shared with me.. He fell in love with me, and was going to go on leave from Niger Delta Nigeria (BIG clue) to spend Christmas with me… Two friends warned me to be careful, I said he’s stationed there, not from there… Then ucler started acting up but had no meds, didn’t want to eat the food on the base because the food was being poisoned by terrorist. He hadn’t eaten for 2 days, and need food, would I help him? Then the request for money came out. ‘I swear I will pay you back’. His card did not work there, I said give me your card number and I will get money for you… no response to that. I asked a lot of questions and he was getting ‘upset’. ‘His daughter’ is in FB, I looked at her friends, they were/are from all over the US, differnet age groups, didn’t seem to have any connections, fake… He did not get a penny from me!! I feel good about that but, violated… Beware of iMESH
I to was victimized . A man stating he was a Sgt and the he was in afganistan.
We were online for months talking and chatting . I will mention his name to alert others there are to as I did my research
Sgt Gary Johnson
Sgt JackSteve. who portray as the same man.
These so called people used me into believing that the were true and that they were military officers who both appeared to say they lived in Illinios.
I was scammed out of $3200.00 as I paid in USD funds which I am from Canada.
I was in love with this man and I was decieved through his cunning deception.
I will never see the money ever again and it was my life savings all I had.
Here is another alert to anyone The money I sent to was ts2communications@gmail.com which is not for military men it is a scam email base.
Please ladies or men from other ladies in other countries please be very safe and sure who you are talking to and with.
This world is full of all kinds of decievers and liars.
Let us all look out for each others backs and live in safe world around us
Thank you for listening to me and giving you warning.
Hello To All,
In response to Jewels says: September 11, 2010 at 12:58 am Today is the day I finally got confirmation of this scam, that I started having doubts about 2 weeks ago as soon as he asked me for money.
We started communicating via email, his profile was with matchmaker.com
below is a copy of his profile, his first email to me and some recent IM text.
I know is hard to accept this as it has been for me I did not want to believe it was happening to me, and it has some I posting here to the hope of helping others before they part with there money and there emotional, mental, and spiritual well being, I don’t fully know how this will impact me as I only found out today so I am still in shock, I hoping that this does not destroy my faith in the human race.

I, like “Ban Scam” met a James Inzaghi on match.com who said he was widowed, he had a UK accent but was from NYC and was in Dubai working on some sort of rigs. I actually thought he was legit. After several emails (promising everything) and a handful of phone calls, he asked for money to help pay some government taxes over there. I declined. He tried again several days later, saying he needed the money to get his men out of Dubai. Again, I declined. He then called to say he was in NYC and needed me to get some sort of code that would access his cell phone so that he could talk, text and visit me. I received two phone calls right after that from a number in California with a message in another language. I never heard from him after that. I knew as soon as he asked for money the first time, that I was being scammed. Warning: Ladies, they do not give up! They will keep trying and the stories are endless. His email is jamesinzaghi@yahoo.com The UK number he used is 44-2032868342 I received an email from zoosk.com, another dating service on the internet saying that James Inzaghi would like a referral from me because we are such good friends!!! HA HA HA HA
Hi Jazz,
Yes there are many ladies who would love a soldier and many soldiers who
would be love to be appreciated for what they do.
The other commenter was right about yahoo chat, but there are programs out there to capture the chat, usually made so you can watch what your kids say and so online. Regardless the text will usually provide little evidence. Any email addresses give are not going to be useful.
In some cases they may ask you to send money to a person at a specific address in the US. You may feel this is legit, but it turns out to be a vacant house and the scammer will stand out front watering the grass and waiting for the UPS truck, then gets the delivery that way. These folks are VERY sneaky, and smart. And I guarantee for very one person posting here there are a thousand getting ripped off and having no clue.
This really needs to hit the press and be told to the country on the 6 o’clock news.
If you have photos of a service member you can upload them to http://www.tineye.com/ and search for other instances of that same photo. This is one way to identify scamming pictures, but remember the bag guys can rotate their photo stock easily.
Once you figure out it is a scam, go ahead and lead them on. Give them fake tracking numbers, swear you send the money, etc. Have the mouse chase the cat for a while. You will be taking time from them that they would be using to find new targets.
I wrote a couple of days ago about James Rellinger. But I also wrote an update on him which is not on here. I talked to him further from that day when I found this site. I said the second time I said something about him that found out when I entered his name on internet it had alot of sites. I feel that someone is using his picture that was taken from his facebook and my space sites. He said he had his superior check on seeing what can be done. So I told him I would look for more to help him straighten this out. I found more information for him and I sent it to him he gave it his superiors who wanted to know whats going on. He seen my post the other day while looking at what people where saying about his name being used he was upset. So I’m posting this and hope that the person using his picture and name gets found so he can have peace its ashame that while soldiers fighting and dying that others use their pictures and names to destroy them. Some are also using deceased soldiers names for these scams. He was happy I found the informations for him. God Bless The Soldiers.
Another one to look out for who is on match.com right now is a Lt Col Dennis Gray. In the pics he is very attractive, happy to send pics of him & his sister, him on his own and in uniform, talks the talk (all the normal stuff you have all seen before). Claims to be coming back to the UK in February and then moving his mum and daughter over from LA. Wanted to talk on the phone and said I need to email admin@uplinksat.com (and to be careful with the details he needed to give me as it was his service code). They responded and asked for between 700 and 1500 USD to establish the link and I needed to go to Western Union to pay the money. Yeah right! IP address is Ghana and he is now blocked! If you are on match.com, check out his profile – mrsimple_a_a_503. Emails all looked legitimate and even had convincing footer on them saying sent from a military device in Afghanistan – this one is a real charmer – as I guess they all are!
Hi Robert Mclaughlin
I would like to send u sum pics which been used to scam women for money and maybe u cud find d real guys and let dem be aware dat deir pics been used to scam.
Many thanks
Ladies, just remember, you can’t save the chats on Yahoo messenger or any other chat room except if that person is also online, online, so there will be no proof that they ask you for anything.
That is why they ask you to go chat rooms, if they are online you can, and trust me, I was 1 night invisible online and suddenly some 1 chatted to me and said ” name you are a liar, then I know he is online, so I quickly saved some of the chats we had, not that I will ever get my money back!!
Don’t go to chat, ask them to mail you and save that, for what I don’t know. Because I think I you like me got scammed out of thousands, get rid of everything, photo’s, e-mails, poems etc, because the USA Army don’t care in any case to assist and so are the USA government because they can’t go into Nigeria or Ghana.
Ladies, ask them to mail you and check the IP, if from Sunnyvale?? ALL Yahoo shows Sunnyvale, please check CJ’s website, http://www.soldiersperspective.com. We ALL are lonely and looking for the correct / perfect partner that at our age will never happen, so please be careful!!
JUST ANOTHER WARNING TO ALL OF OUR SINGLE LADIES OUT THERE, PLEASE CHECK THE SCAMMERS ON FACE BOOK, they are growing day by day.
Not only soldier photo’s been used but children as-well. Be strong Ladies we”ll get on top again!!
Ladies we all have be scammed. Mine was named Lt. Gary Search in Iraq. After much attention and emails he did ask me for $410.00 to commnicate by phone. AFTER I wired the mail they sent another email (militaryphonecommunication@writeme.com) asking for another $355.00. That put up a red flag for me and I was very fortuniate to stop the payment and got my money back. I am so glad I found you ladies so I CAN PUT THIS TO AN END. HE IS ON MSN MESSANGER WANTING TO SPEAK TO ME AS I AM WRITING THIS. BEWARE OF THIS BA***RD.
Hello ladies, I too have gotten a “fake soldier” and thanks to the tips here, despite his claim of being a Marine Sgt stationed in Iraq, his ip address goes back to Sunnyvale Califorinia! He claims his name is Kelvin Morgan, 41 and a widow with a son Justin 12yrs old, and a 7 yr old Daughter whitney…clamis his wife died of cancer a few years ago…so far he has not asked for money, but did ask me to apply for a phone connection with him, which sadly I did, luckily didnt give more than my name and a few other minor details…the funny thing is that this scammer picked a victim who is utterly broke and he couldnt get a dime from me no matter how good his game is, lol. I have nothing, not even if this scam was identity theft, would they get a thing from me, lmao! If anyone has come across Sgt Kelvin Morgan, I have pics and emails and am happy to warn anyone and everyone out there of this scam!
Also ask for their army.mil address. Sure I have yahoo and gmail but we can get emails to our military addresses, at least once to verify who we are.
I am reading back on these posts and am saddened by the trust that was abused and the monies taken from folks who I am sure could barely afford it.
Grill us! Ask us where we went to Basic, what is our MOS, who is our CO, and so on. It is not a shameful thing to talk about. Ask us to scan our CAC card. Above all Google the name he gives you, I found out about this 3rd and this website by using google.
These scams SUCK!!! MATTEW SWAIN is not real! Most the pics are stolen. how do I know? I am on the US ARMY AKO PAGE right now and I can search everyone in the Army, and he is not there!
Do you know anyone in the Army? Have them do a person search for you on their AKO page! We can see active, reserve, guard, contractors, etc.
NO ONE goes on a secret mission that they can tell you about in chat or email.
NO ONE is part of a secret unit where they can tell you they are a secret.
NO ONE is Delta, SEAL, SF, or other branch but they cannot give more data.
If it smells like a scam it probably is! I have busted THREE of these guys so far who are trying to harm my friends!!!
CHECK THEM OUT! I have NO problem showing you my ID card or other PROOF. Photos are not proof!
you know not all are the same,i have met a man in person whom i met on DD,and he is real,i think when you open your heart out ,you will find yours.
@Cheri, yes, Alan Savil is a Nigerian guy (early 20’s). They troll single sites to pick up divorced, single middle-aged ppl. They are after your money…period. Block the guy and cease further contact.
…and yes they do work in groups. Internet Cafes are operated like organized crime. Don’t give money to anyone.
