I just came across a post on “A Soldier’s Perspective” discussing a rather disgusting and disturbing trend that has guys posing as soldiers on Internet dating sites. Here’s the quote from CJ’s:
The latest trend involves trolling internet dating sites and convincing women that they are honorable Soldiers who have fallen in love and would do anything to communicate with the object of their affection. But, because they are deployed to Afghanistan or Iraq, they need you to sign up for an expensive telecommunications service like “Military TELEX” in order to make that happen. They profess unending love as their motivator and, unfortunately, many women have fallen for it.
The BIG red flag here is that the guy is asking for money. NEVER fall for that con.
If you come across anyone on a dating site who is asking you for money, regardless of the reason; block them immediately from further contact and then report them to the internet dating service.
You can also check out who is really behind their email address…
AND / or their telephone number…

Captain Gordon E. Hannett tried sucking me in. By the 3rd day, he professed his love for me and started asking me to marry him within the next few days. Then he brought up his birthday, which he said was on the 30th of October. He asked me for a laptop with a webcam on it so we can see each other. When I told him I couldn’t afford that, he asked specifically for a Sony Ericssen W595A GSM cell phone. They’re about $150 to $200. I did a HUGE amount of Googling and found that this guy was an attorney who was arrested and charged for a few things. He ALSO TOLD ME HE LOST HIS WIFE AND SON IN A CAR ACCIDENT FOUR YEARS AGO!! When I asked about it, he said he couldn’t talk about it. I knew that this guy was a real p.o.s. and called him on it right away. Now his Face Book and everything has vanished!! BEWARE OF GORDON E. HANNETT!!!!

Hello all, It’s really sad to see that women are scam by those stupid people…I was in contact with not only one but two scammers pretending to be soldier and a doctor, the minute they ask for money please delete..be careful. In my situation i didn’t lose any money but I got very sick almost a heart attack due to anxiety in the two months period and finally everything is over. I worked hard with website to put notice for those scammers and reminber they don’t always post as soldier…
Girls if you really want to date a soldier there is a site for them and it’s free and you will be safe and there is so many great guys posted…the site is call date a soldier.
a word of advice to all maybe there is a better way to meet great guys in your hometown…close to you that you can meet the same week face to face…sometime the right guy in your next door neighbor””

I think I have a new name for all of you.. My contacted me through free dating site plenty of fish.. Stated he was deployed in Afgan.. for 18 month tour.. widow for 6 years and 3 kids .. left with gaurdian in UK school.. He goes by the name of Mark Ross and says he is a lt in Marines.. I knew something was wrong. the picture he posted looked younger than he said. Claimed to be 45. wanted to talk via IM and then web cam but said he could not send web cam only view.. 1st red flag — only after to short IM conversations we had everything in common (duh he read my dating profile) and he was in love with me 2nd big red flag.. this flag was my saving grace.. he now wanted to come see me and meet me but I would have to fly to washington dc to be listed on his information file so he could get leave to come see me.. Told him I lived next to Airforce base and would contact someone who would help me do that and I could not fly to dod. He then told me that I could not do that would mess it up and he would not be able to see me –3rd red flag waving big now.. So I played along I new something was up but never heard of this type of scam.. told him then I could not meet him.. BAM all of a sudden he has an active military friend who can help. he could not call I would have to this. gave me the number –206-350-9248 I was to contact his friend jeff… I called it only got recording . Told Mark this and BAM he would try to page him .. amazingly enough Jeff his friend got deployed that same day and I was to add him to my IM .. I could not drop this I this was all wrong just did not know what was so wrong..I did not add him . later that night Mark showed up on my IM asked if I had talked to Jeff. Said I added him ( lied like he is not lieing to me) and then he said he would page jeff again to see whats up. within 5 min had a friend request on IM from jeff..amazing…Jeff talks up mark but then gets to the point will help me by sending for some forms that he will get and fed ex them to me – OK LADIES IF JEFF IS GOING TO CONTACT DOD ( DEPARMENT OF DEFENCE) AND GET SOME FORMS FOR ME TELL ME THIS WHY COULDNT I DO THAT… OHHHHHH THIS IS ALL A SCAM anyways to make long story short I need to pay jeff 400.00 for this — I don’t have the money I tell mark – who feels bad jeff asked for money so now he tries to bargin with jeff through pager — um pagers only transmit phone numbers not IM type and who carries a pager anymore. so we are down to 200.00 thats a deal and really he must see me he is in love with me… um he forgot one thing he does not know me. ( was good about not giving out info after 2nd red flag) I am not sending the money and will try to turn him in and prevent him from really hurting someone. I read everyone post and feel for those .. I think it is wise to check with military post about sending any military person any money …
I was on Match.com and a guy named James Inzaghi said he was from New York had to fly to UK working on oil rigs. I knew something smelled fishy. His email was jamesinzaghi@yahoo.com but the domain came from Sunnyvale ca. He also want me to call a +44-703-598-3114 number which I didn’t. I reported him to AOL,Yahoo & Match. I also checked this number goes to UK but is routed to Nigeria.

thought something was a miss but played along with it, a soldier from iraq, who wanted contact as he was lonely and needed someone to talk too, to get him thru his stint in iraq, i was sent 3 photos, the men in the photos had very similar characteristics, yes i did have to compare them as they were so alike. But the over the top stuff that was being sent to me. then oh i want to web cam you, and i agreed, then suddenly his cam did not work, i told him i could call him on his mobile, he said that he was not allowed to have one over there. oops then presto oh please ring me so i can hear your beautiful vioce, i as thru msn or phone, and he said phone. i gave him some rather pointy questions and he disconnected me lol
After reading these posts it made me realise the person I have been communicating with is a scammer! I am based in the UK was on the b2b site in May this year and yep a US soldier based in Iraq, Sgt Major Remi Hall, a combat camera man assigned to the UN. Although for some reason lived in Birmingham – which never made sense to me. Wanted to go onto IM pretty much straight away. email armyraymee@yahoo.com. Well the usual thing was in love with me after about a week, sent the pictures of a nice looking guy, claimed his wife had died of cancer and his 9 yr old daughter lived in America with his sister in law, naturally no family/friends all alone in the world, due to his moving around. My instincts have been eating away at me with the bad grammar and the love, although at times I felt I was speaking to different people as the English would improve. He had to speak to me and sent the TS2 stuff wanted £565 by WU to a an Sabrini Shipani in Switzerland. I got swept away with it all, so what possessed me to send £400 who knows, but kept getting emails from TS2 to send the balance which I didn’t as typically did the checks after I had sent the cash!! They asked a few times then said I could have a refund if I wanted to but better to send the rest of the cash. In the meantime I accused him of the scam which he denied vehemently of course, I told him all the checks I had done even down to the person who was supposed to pick up the money. Well I know God was on my side as for some reason the money wasn’t picked up so after having a lecture from the WU lady for being so stupid she refunded back my cash, and told me I was very lucky indeed. We spoke a bit more after that and he begged me to contact the TS2 again as they were obviously legit as I got my money. Not a chance in hell…he has now said he is in Afghan but still wants us to be together and he will be back soon but just doesn’t know when…rubbish. Not spoken for a month or so emailed him to say had removed him from IM and no more emails surprise he contacted me to say he loves me and it’s the covert operation why he can’t come online. After reading about IP checks on here I did one various IP’s routing through the US but the final one is in Lagos Nigeria registered to a Catalin Miclaus. I feel stupid for falling for the scam, I will never quite understand how I managed to get my money back, but very pleased…My intuition was screaming at me from day one to say this was all very odd things just didn’t add up, but lesson learnt to listen in the future. Also found a Remi Hall on myYearbook – same picture used on b2b. We all live and learn grateful to have found this site which made me investigate some more.

Hi, I joined Date Hookup over a month ago and I was sent an email by James Parker saying that he is a soldier in Afghanistan and has been there for eight months and when he comes home he wants to retire. He started calling me “babe” and saying how much he really likes me. He then started talking about his mother and he kept saying how worried he was about her and that she needs money for her medicine. He then asked me for $550 dollars and I only had been talking to him for about two weeks. I told him “that I would never send him any money”! His grammer and spelling is not good and he said that he has an Associate’s degree in English. Lmao on that one! I tried to lookup the ip address that I got from his email and it came back as Sunnyvale, Ca. but then when I tried searching my family and friends ip address, it kept coming up as Sunnyvale, Ca. Strange.

I’ve had one of them removed from Friends Over 50 dating website and another who disappeared very quickly when I told him what I’d done. They both said they had connections very local to where I live and that they were returning here very shortly. Very plausible to start with, but same old same old…. I’m at the end of my ‘deal’ with Friends over 50 and have decided that dating sites are a ‘no go’ area from now on. If I can’t meet someone the normal way, then I’ll just have to be happy on my own. Keep the faith girls!

My mother is currently being scammed out of her savings by an internet army scammer. He says his name is COLONEL CHILDRESS BENT. He says he is in the army and stationed in afghanistan. He claims to have a child who is sick and that he needs money to pay the nanny so he can get granted his leave. There is alot to this story but he has scammed my mom out of lots of money. She has sent it via western union to a guy named Billy Warren in houston tx. The scammers email address is col.childress@yahoo.com He met my mom on a online dating site. I have made a photobucket account so I could post his pictures for you to see and see if you know him by another scammer name. Please let me know if you do. Scammers like this need to be stopped. Haven’t sent any money…and yes he asked that I email his commander an ask if he could call….got an email reply from the commander…guess what his email address is? brig.gen_davidcyr@yahoo.com. and of course it would only cost me $205 dollars to talk to him…I told him ain’t happening…I even blocked him, then it made me mad about what they’re doing…so I added him back…I’ve got some pictures too that he sent me…and saved some of the im chat…as soon as I was on to him,. I would love to have this guy locked up. It infuriates me that these people are so low down. He also has a friend named John Manuel…I don’t have his im address, did but had deleted him. David claims to be from Dallas, TX divorced for 5 years, has a 10 year daughter named Lucy, one sister named Linda, claims his parents were killed in a car accident several years ago. I gathered early on it was a scam…but I was bored and I’d really like to catch these guys. Who do you report this too? Thanks again for this site!
