I just came across a post on “A Soldier’s Perspective” discussing a rather disgusting and disturbing trend that has guys posing as soldiers on Internet dating sites. Here’s the quote from CJ’s:
The latest trend involves trolling internet dating sites and convincing women that they are honorable Soldiers who have fallen in love and would do anything to communicate with the object of their affection. But, because they are deployed to Afghanistan or Iraq, they need you to sign up for an expensive telecommunications service like “Military TELEX” in order to make that happen. They profess unending love as their motivator and, unfortunately, many women have fallen for it.
The BIG red flag here is that the guy is asking for money. NEVER fall for that con.
If you come across anyone on a dating site who is asking you for money, regardless of the reason; block them immediately from further contact and then report them to the internet dating service.
You can also check out who is really behind their email address…

Hi I’m tasha, I have been chatting with a guy by the name Garack Vennis for about a week now. He says he is a Sgt in the army stationed in Atlanta Ga and that he grew up an orphaned on a farm from Indiana, and that he has a 7yr old son living with his Great aunt in Germany and which the bo’s mother was killed in a car crash.He seemed sincere til he wanted me to log onto a so called website to request permission from the military to actually talk to him.Then he told me it would be a fee of 200USD to be paid to the POS of his unit( idk what that means?) I asked my friend from work cuz her son is a Marine and they both said that they never heard anything like that except about the request and unless this person was in jail. I told them I don’t know and I hope not! I came across this site cuz of the website he gave me so I just don’t want to be no fool. When I called him on it it he started saying he makes 46000 a month(probably from scamming) he doesn’t need my money and he loves me and why am I beratting him. I told him to lose my email and chat app site but yet he still is writing me and confessing his love but still want me to send money western union and money gram! That took the last straw to break the camels back…I’M BLOCKING AND DELETING!!! You all have a bless life and please be safe!!!!

Hi All..Listen to this for a fantastic story. was talking to this guy sgt. scott..or so he says..Been talking to him for around 3 months now..wants to come and meet me needs money (as usual) 700 usd..says he cant access his money at all…where he is..claims to be in iraq still..I call his bluff by saying i would pay it which i didn’t..but said I would..Next afternoon i get this email saying..he has been caught trying to flee the camp and was kept under guard for some hours and passport taken off him…And adds insult to injury by saying he has a new deployment in Africa now…Supposedly trying to flee the camp to meet me..but got caught..Seem’s he was playing James Bond..lol…see if i payed in this so called money…when i said..this email would be waiting for me when i came back from paying it in…So the set up was on him…lol…Ladies be careful these people are smooth and very believeable…Take care..

He probably is LIVING there like most of these lying cheating false soldiers Never send money whatever you do Another thing you can do is Google names and they can appear on that too Just put the name you want with word scammer

Hi all,haven’t been on here for a while but just wanted to let you all hear some good news for a change.I have met a lovely guy and we have been together a few months now and are very happy.Yes we have actually met as he does not live far from me.On a more serious note finally managed to get shot of my scammer..Stephen Bryant but unsuprisingly still get hit on by scammers through facebook.I just block and report them but I think some of them are still him using different names.I can now spot a scammer straight away and even though I shouldn’t I do like to bait them.Usually reply this way….I look forward to hearing from you and reading your poor english and hearing your sad story.I also look forward to your declarations of undying love in badly worded emails until the day you try to scam money from me.Please get a life or better still get a job and some self respect you sad excuse for a human being!

Did anyone hear from Marcus Coleman plz??? He says to be captain in Afghanistan…asks me money for leave because his contract would take another 2 years and he wants out from there….I read so much about scamming that I don’t see clear anymore. How and where can I get info about him? Are there listings I can check? I am Belgian and have no clue how the american military system works.

If a guy has a legitimate .mil email AND meets the other qualifications you are off to a fine start. There are jerks in the military too who want to get “rewards” and abuse your trust, but they can be busted, and have been. They are very rare though. A .mil email can also be given to civilians who are sponsored by someone. For example I can sponsor a person and get them a .mil account but I am responsible for them.
Someone who does not steal ID will have no problem writing your name on a sign and holding it up for a picture.

If anyone else would like to know my experience with BODE CARTER I would be more than glad to share. I just don’t want anyone else out there to fall or go down for him and his so called friends. He does not even speak English very well. He is just like the other jerk that tried to get money out of me. Don’t cash any checks anyone sends you without the bank looking to make sure that it is legit or you go down. Be smart ladies and don’t fall for love in all the wrong places. I have my life together. If you have broke off from a bad relationship, please take time to heal and get your life together. Go through the YWCA it is FREE and they can help you get counseling etc., so you know what healthy and unhealthy relationships are and don’t settle for something less than what you want out of life. Strive HIGHER!!!!. A friend of mine told me that their dad told them to go for a guy that loves you more than you love yourself. I know I deserve the best and so do you. I settled for less and it was not worth it! Be good to yourselves and you love yourself more than anyone else out there in the world. You can trust yourself always! If it is too good to be true it is.

What I dont understand is, just before Christmas, the picture of the man they had tryied to scam me as the Colonel, was brought to my attention (by winking at me). he was apparently “other professional” not in Military, living in Glasgow.. it was indeed the same picture of the man who was used to try and scam me originally. … what was there to gain from that… I reported it immediately to Match… Surely they didnt think I wouln’t regonise him.. They cant be a clever as they think they are…
To Ros: I have been talking to a Doctor who knows of my exploits with the Military Scammer… He has patients who are struggling to come to terms with the devastation that these encounters cause and has taken details of this site to give them a place to come and share their heart ache, as indeed we have had.. to help them cope.. know that there are many people in the same position.. it helps so much to know we arent on our own…
