Internet Dating Scam: Fake Soldiers (Part 2)

NOTE: This is the 2nd posting of this article as we had SO many comments on the first that it wouldn’t take anymore. :-) Too see the 984 comments on the first, please click here.

I just came across a post on “A Soldier’s Perspective” discussing a rather disgusting and disturbing trend that has guys posing as soldiers on Internet dating sites. Here’s the quote from CJ’s:

The latest trend involves trolling internet dating sites and convincing women that they are honorable Soldiers who have fallen in love and would do anything to communicate with the object of their affection. But, because they are deployed to Afghanistan or Iraq, they need you to sign up for an expensive telecommunications service like “Military TELEX” in order to make that happen. They profess unending love as their motivator and, unfortunately, many women have fallen for it.

The BIG red flag here is that the guy is asking for money. NEVER fall for that con.

If you come across anyone on a dating site who is asking you for money, regardless of the reason; block them immediately from further contact and then report them to the internet dating service.

To read specific details about about one incident, read CJ’s post “The New Military Dating Scam“.

To Jack Stranger: Just curious but what is amolatina ? Never heard of it. I just wanted to say that all the ones who posed as a Military person, contacted me first. I did not seek any of them. Each one turned out to be a scammer. I have never met one posing as a soldier that turned out to be a real soldier. I guess i look like a good mark, as i get tons of them contacting me. I found once you set up chatting with one, your on a list. They seek you hoping to score. I believe this is the case with the others ladies out there also., and no way do I believe a non-military man is less – not by far.

NOTICE : I have been contacted on my email from one who calls herself Elena Larry requesting my friendship. Says she saw my profile on 101.Date.Com. I have never put my profile on 101.Date.com. I have only posted here. She says she speaks English, however, it was not good. I don’t know what this means exactly, but i suspect another scammer. They may be in here reading these posts.

  3. Jack Stranger says:

If a lady would only seek a man who was nonMilitary this might be avoided. However the education behind all these posts is worthwhile

Who said that a non-military was any less than a man who is in the military any way????

  4. Jack Stranger says:

Why do you have Amolatina advertized on your page. Everyone knows that with the low rating on other review sites that this site cannot be trust because of its prochatter activity especially

For Everyone : Lately I have had several requests from scammers wanting to send me money (checks) and asking me to obtain WALMART MONEY CARDS so they can deposit the checks on the cards. The checks are bad. DO NOT DO THIS. It is another way of scamming you, and can have some very serious legal ramifications for you. I think since the Military left Iraq they have had to think up new ways to get your money and this is one of them.

To Doris : I was very sorry to read I was too late for your friend. Have her read these posts on here just the same if you can. Like you said, the ball will drop and it will be utterly devastating for her. It makes me sick to know this scammer got his way. I once in passing was talking to a friend of mine, and I said I wonder what they do with all the money they get ? I was told lots of it is spent on prostitutes, drinking, partying, having a good time. Doesn’t that just stick in your craw…
They use the money to live on, in whatever manner they choose to. So essentially your supporting them when you give in and send them the money they are asking you for. They are criminals, and yes absolute liars. This is the way they make a living. They do not love you, and you will never meet them.
Doris I wish your friend the best and I hope you can help her to see the truth.

Look out for Warrant Officer Steven Moon and US General Mark Morrison from the oasis internet dating site, stationed in Afganistan. Did the instant chat on the site then they gave me their email address after only a short time, as soon as I went on msn instant they closed their account on the oasis site, this started the alarm bells. They both came over all sweetness and light sending me pictures and gave me over the top details about themselves and how there were looking for the love of their life and would even relocate! Mark informed me he lost his wife in 9/11 and as soon as I started delving into their life because of the nature of the emails they sent is when my gut feeling really began to kick in, due to the fact they could not string a sentence together with the English language, saying they liked my photos I had sent them, when in fact I had not, their whole attitude changed to what I can only describe as aggressive, then they disconnected themselves from msn instant, email addresses given were steven.moon22@hotmail.com and mark09092010@hotmail.com I think it is disgraceful that these people using innocent soldiers for their own twisted evil ends.
