Identity theft is one of the fastest growing crimes.
According to the FTC Identity Theft survey from 2006 (the most recent available):

For the New Accounts & Other Frauds category, the top 10 percent of the victims incurred expenses of at least $3,000, and the top 5 percent incurred expenses of at least $5,000. One-quarter of victims in the New Accounts & Other Frauds category reported paying out-of-pocket expenses of at least $1,000.
- Victims of all types of ID theft spent hours of their time resolving the various problems that result from ID theft. The median value for the number of hours spent resolving problems by all victims was 4. However, 10 percent of all victims spent at least 55 hours resolving their problems. How to Keep Your Credit Card Safe Online
If you’ve never used your credit card to shop online, I understand that you may be reluctant to do so purchase an online dating service.
I’ve done almost all of my Christmas shopping online for many years and as a blogger, I pay for all my services (web site hosting, etc.) with credit cards online and have never experienced the slightest problem.
The biggest issue is confirming company reputability. My advice, if you aren’t familiar with a particular brand, do some online research through consumer reports to make sure the company doesn’t have scam reports lodged against it.
Note: You can be assured that each of the service providers mentioned on 101Date.com are completely reputable.
To enhance your online shopping security and prevent credit card fraud with sites other than those listed here, follow the tips below.
Only use Secure Websites
Look for a padlock symbol in the lower right corner of your browser to make sure that the ‘buy’ or ‘order’ page is secure. Most often the website address in your browser address bar will also change from starting with http to https.
Security Code
An ever growing number of online stores now require a CVV or card verification number when making a purchase. The CVV code is the small code located on the back of your card on the signature bar. Generally the last 3 digits of the code are required. This is to prevent fraudulent purchases from someone who has managed to get your name; card number and expiration date from being able to make purchases using your card.
Use a Credit Card with Online Fraud Protection
Many credit card companies offer protection against purchases made without your consent and have special clauses to include online purchases.
Use a Credit Card with a Low Credit Limit
You might also want to consider getting a credit card that you use just for online purchases that has a low credit limit.
Although credit card fraud may never be completely eradicated, following these simple tips will help you shop online safely and securely.
